A FATHER WHO TRUSTS GOD, KNOWS THE LORD WILL PROVIDE
EARLIEST
“MR. WILL” WILLIAMS Transitioned November 21, 1971
Reflecting upon our childhood days, oftentimes our daddy would remind us about the hard times he and others expe- rienced during the Great Depression pe- riod, and even later in life. When we sat at the table for any meal, Daddy’s stern voice but the caring voice would remind us, “Whatever I and your Mama put on the table for you to eat, you will eat whatever you put on your plate, too. There will be no making a sandwich because you don’t like the food.” How many times you would dream about the day when you were grown and could buy what you wanted to eat. Nevertheless, we answered, “Yes sir, daddy;” uttered your grace, and swal- lowed the food on your plate with a smile!
In retrospect, our Daddy worked at the U. S. Phosphate Chemical Plant and days before Thanksgiving, the workers went on strike. Oh no, we cried, our Daddy will not have a vacation check and no bonus pay. Furthermore, Mama would not have any money to purchase a turkey and picnic shoulder; Baker’s Angel Flake Coconut and Hershey’s chocolate needed for cake making; some red rim cheddar cheese to make macaroni and cheese, and other fa-
vorites for the Thanksgiving Day meal!
At this crucial time, we believed our daddy would come through. To our amazement, on Thanksgiv-
ing eve, daddy came home with a big box from Lincoln Grocery store full of Florida and Western neck bones! With great enthusiasm, he declared, “We will have bar-b-q neck bones for Thanksgiving dinner! Oh my, our Mama was just as surprised as we were! Nevertheless, we knew she would put a hurting on those neck bones wrapped in some heavy foil and slowly grilled with some Kraft sauce; and prepared some good ole potato salad and baked beans! Truly, we know the Lord will provide! Yes, Oh, give thanks unto Him for all He has done!
Truly, our daddy taught us a lifelong lesson, that is, learn to be thankful for whatever way the Lord blesses you. Learn to put your trust in Him, pray in faith, and hold on, because He will provide. Dear hearts, every day is a day of thanksgiving to our parents, and especially to God. It is never too late to trust Him.
Goodnight Daddy, we will see you and Mama in the morning!
With fond memories we remain: Leatricia, Earliest, Valretha, Maggie, Norma, Michelle, Thelma, Annette, Juanita, and grandchildren.
