   Temple Terrace Mayor Creates Youth Leadership Council
 Dr. Mel Jurado, Mayor of the City of Temple Terrace recently announced the cre- ation of a Mayor’s Youth Lead- ership Council. The students must submit applications no later than March 15, 2018.
Interviews of prospective members will be conducted in April and membership will be finalized by the end of May. The first meeting of the Coun- cil will take place in August and will run through the end of school, with a final special event in July.
The purpose of the Council is to encourage participation in civic, leadership and com- munity service programs that inspire a commitment to com- munity service and lifelong civic responsibility for Temple Terrace area high school stu- dents.
Students on the Council will serve as City Ambassadors at various functions and en- gage in a Community Service Impact Project as well as take
part in Leadership 101 quar- terly development sessions fo- cused on interpersonal skill building, public speaking, business etiquette, etc. They also will earn service hours and volunteer experience that can used to enhance scholar- ship applications.
Dr. Jurado said, “I am thrilled to be able to partner with our local high schools and provide this opportunity to area youth. I look forward to the energy and enthusiasm these students will bring to the program and am interested to discover more about the issues that are important to the young people in our Amazing City.
“I firmly believe that the City of Temple Terrace stands to gain as much from this re- lationship as the students.”
The Mayor’s Youth Leader- ship Council is open to high school students in grades nine through 12 during the 2018- 2019 school year who live in or

are connected to the Temple Terrace community.
Students must have a min- imum 2.0 G.P.A. and commit to one year of service on the Council, which will meet at least once a month. In addi- tion, members must possess a strong desire to learn about City government and impact our community and beyond for good.

             Participants Needed For Annual Homelessness Race

The Tampa Housing Au- thority will host its 4th annual Race To End Homelessness on Saturday, March 10, 2018. The event will take place at Al Lopez Park, 4810 N. Himes Avenue, from 9 a.m. until 12 noon.
Currently, the Tampa Housing Authority is seeking participants for the race. In- dividuals wanting to partici- pate in the race are asked to sign up as soon as possible.
Ms. Lillian Stringer,
spokesperson for the Tampa Housing Authority, is encour- aging members of the com- munity to participate in the event. “You may not know that homeless individuals need assistant in paying for their birth certificates, identi- fication cards, security and utility deposits, food, cloth- ing, blankets and other items.
“Families who have noth- ing appreciate everything. The overarching goal of this 5K race is to raise $10,000 to assist in eradicating home- lessness in our community. We hope that you will be a part of the solution.”

participate in the event can make a monetary contribu- tion for those who are not runners. Other donations may include gift certificates, coupons, food, or beverages.
