Rename Cahoon/Van Buren Schools In Honor Of The Late Robert R. Scott
Tampa community organizations and leaders have organized an initiative to advo- cate for the Hillsborough County School Board to name a school in honor of former educator and community pioneer, Robert R. Scott.
This initiative to have a school named after Mr. Scott is led by the National Coun- cil of Negro Women (NCNW), Tampa Metro- politan Chapter, and its President, Rosa McKinzy Cambridge. NCNW also has the support of Derrick Blue, Interim CEO and the Board of THAP, Inc., Lakeisha R. Simms, Esq., and others.
Mr. Scott’s legacy lives on through all of the organizations and leaders he touched.
Residents of the community are en- couraged to send an e-mail in support of naming the Cahoon Elementary and Van Buren Middle Schools for Mr. Robert R. Polk County Chapter FAMU Scholarship Gala
On Saturday, February 24, 2018 Florida A&M University National Alumni Association President, LTC Gregory L. Clark, will be the Guest Speaker for the 2018 Polk County Alumni Chapter Florida A&M University Annual Scholarship Gala. Special guests attending the Gala will be: Head Football Coach for Florida A&M University, Willie Simmons and Band Director for Florida A&M University, Dr. Shelby Chipman.
The reception will start at 6 p. m., the program will start at 7 p. m.
The event will be held at RP Funding Center, Lakeland, 33815.

HBCU Jump Off
The Virgil Hawkins Bar Association, Inc., and the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Polk County (NPHCPC) will host the Annual free College and University recruitment event for all stu- dents interested in learning in a diverse, culturally rich environ- ment at one of Florida’s Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU):
• Bethune-Cookman University • Edward Waters College
• Florida A&M University
• Florida Memorial University
The educational event will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the: Coleman Bush Building, 1104 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, Lakeland, Florida 33805. The event will be from 8 a. m. until 1:30 p. m.
Recruiters from Florida’s four HBCUs will be on site along with financial aid specialists to give seniors, juniors and middle school students information about College and University op- portunities and learning about Higher Education life.
