Tampa Native To Perform In ‘Poetry At The Dali’
Get It Straight Foundation Hosts Christmas Luncheon And Awards Ceremony
On Thursday, the contin- uing series of “Poetry At The Dali” will take place. The event will take place at the Salvador Dali Museum, 1 Dali Blvd., St. Petersburg, FL 33701.
Featuring two local poets, it will begin at 6 p.m., and conclude at 7:30 p.m. The theme for this event is “Cages and Liberation.”
A Tampa native, Ms. An- gela Shannon is the author of “Singing the Bones To- gether,” which was a finalist for the Minnesota Book Award. She has published numerous anthologies in- cluding, “Blue Vision: African American Writ- ing from Minnesota,” Hip Hop Speaks to Chil- dren: a celebration of poetry with a beat,” which was a New York Times Best Seller; “Be- yond the Frontier: African-American Po-

etry for the 21st century,” and “Where One Voice Ends, Another Begins: 150 years of Minnesota Poetry,” “Role Call: A Generational Anthology of Social and Political Black Literature & Art, Step into A World: The Global Anthology of the New Black Literature,” “Power Lines: A Decade
of Poetry from Chicago’s Guild Complex,” and “Catch The Fire.”
Ms. Shannon has pub- lished various literary jour- nals including: TriQuarterly, Crab Orchard Review, and Ploughshares, Water-Stone, and has twice published in Essence Magazine.
She is a recipient of Ca- reer Initiative Grant by the Loft Literary Center, a Loft Mentor Award, a Willow Re- view Poetry Prize, and a Po- etry Fellowship by Illinois Art Council.
Ms. Shannon teaches creative writing and poetry at Bethel University, where she is the Assistant Professor of English.
Ms. Shannon earned her B. A. Degree from Florida State University, in 1987. She continued her education at Warren Wilson College, where she earned her M.F.A., in 2001.
