 King’s Kids Christian
Academy Celebrates 34 Years Of Service To The Tampa Community
King’s Kids Christian Academy of Tampa will begin its 34th school year, August 13, 2018. King’s Kids is a preschool that caters to young children ages 1-5 and provides an enriched cur- riculum that prepares chil- dren for first grade.
Bishop Thomas and Marva Scott began the school in 1984, as an out- reach ministry of the 34th Street Church of God, pro- viding educational services to infants thru kindergarten. However, during the last eight years, the school has placed a focus on preschool age children including VPK, kindergarten, and contracts with Hillsborough County Early Head Start Program in providing educational serv- ices to children, birth to age 3. The school remains lo- cated at 3000 North 34th Street.
When the school opens for the Fall, it will prepare to receive an accreditation on- site visit from the National Accreditation Commis- sion for Early Care and Education Programs.
King’s Kids Christian Academy has taken an entire school year to prepare for the on-site visit by the NAC accreditation team. The school began the prepara- tion process by surveying both parents and teachers as to what the school does well and the areas of the school that warrant improvement; building a required informa- tional packet; and submit- ting the informational packet to NAC for approval and scheduling the on-site visit.
Obtaining its accredita- tion will allow King’s Kids Christian Academy to be listed amongst Gold Seal preschools in the Tampa Community, certifying that the school operates accord- ing the national standards that governs preschools of excellence.
To further support the enrichment of its school cur- riculum, King’s Kids Chris- tian Academy of Tampa intends to apply for a 21st
BISHOP THOMAS AND MARVA SCOTT
Century After School Care grant for students who attend the Academy. If awarded, the grant will focus on increasing students’ lan- guage arts skill levels, their awareness of science con- cepts and, parents and teachers’ knowledge of child- hood development mile- stones as they relate to academic expectations (i.e., developmental characteris- tics needed to support aca- demic achievement).
The After School Care program will be held Mon- day – Thursday from 3 p. m. to 5:30 p. m. The profes- sional development portion of the program for parents and teachers will be held every other month, 9 a. m. to noon, Saturday mornings.
Moreover, as King’s Kids Academy of Tampa enters its new school year, a more in- tentional focus will be placed on looking at all levels of children achievement and milestone data. The data in- formation will be used to help teachers refine their in- structional presentation strategies during the regular day and after school care program. Parents will also receive the milestone data and strategies as to how to use the information to en- rich family-home interac- tions, and better support their children’s academic
achievement as well as socio- emotional growth.
King’s Kids Christian Academy of Tampa shares a partnership with the Con- scious Awareness Learning Model (CALM) Department of Hillsborough Community College. The CALM partnership provides teachers with training in so- cial-emotional learning using the Conscious Disci- pline® approach. The pro- gram builds the foundation for constructive problem solving and self-regulation, allowing children to be suc- cessful in their early years and ready for kindergarten.
The fourth Friday of each month is Fun Friday at King’s Kids Christian Acad- emy of Tampa. The Fun Fri- days for this school year will take children beyond the walls of the physical school and expose them to enrich- ing activities that will further support language, socio- emotional and cognitive de- velopment.
The community is invited to come and take a tour of the preschool facility. The hours of operation are Mon- day through Friday, 6:30 A. M. to 6 P. M. Students are provided breakfast, lunch and a snack during the school day.
