Man’s Body Found On Side Of Road In Thonotosassa
Jury Convicts Man For Offenses Linked To
Deputies were dispatched to a Thonotosassa intersec- tion in reference to a body being discovered. The Investi- gators with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office are conducting a criminal investi- gation into the death.
According to police, the call reporting the death was received at approximately 6;30 a.m. on Saturday morn- ing. Deputies arrived at the intersection of County Road 579 Road and Joe Ebert Road, in Thonotosassa, and found the body of an adult white male.
Sheriff Chad Chronis- ter, of Hillsborough County said, “We are in the prelimi- nary stages of the investiga- tion, but this case does appear to be criminal in nature.
2019 Shooting
The body of the unidentified man was found early Satur- day on the road at County Road 579 and Joe Ebert Road.
Last week, a federal jury convicted a man of crimes linked to a shooting that took place in 2019. His sentencing hearing is set for September 9, 2021.
Sergio Antonio Hood,
36, of Tampa, was found guilty of possession of am- munition as a convicted felon, obstruction of justice, and attempted witness tam- pering.
Hood was indicted on December 10, 2020. He has multiple prior convictions, including two federal convic- tions for possession of firearms as a convicted felon, and three federal convictions for distribution of controlled substances. Hood is also a registered sex offender as the result of a prior conviction for lewd and lascivious bat- tery on a minor.
According to evidence presented at trial, on October 27, 2019, a week after meet- ing and beginning a relation- ship with a woman, Hood showed up at her home near Ybor City. Finding her sitting in a parked car with a friend, Hood pushed his assault-

style rifle through the open window, pointed it at the woman’s head, and fired.
The bullet missed the woman and went through the other side of the car. Hood was arrested on state charges the following day.
At the time of the shoot- ing, Hood was on federal su- pervised release. As a result, he was transferred to federal custody to address his viola- tions of the conditions of his supervised release.
While in jail, Hood cre- ated a false alibi and asked a witness to testify falsely at a federal court hearing regard- ing those violations.investi- gation is continuing.

Robbery Suspect Arrested, Search Continues For Another

Detectives arrested one man and are continuing to search for another in an armed robbery. The robbery took place shortly before 11:30 p.m., at the Mobile Gas Sta- tion, 10002 N. Florida Av- enue.
According to police, the two suspects entered the store. The first suspect, armed with a black and silver hand- gun, demanded money. The clerk complied with the order and no one was injured.

Both suspects fled after the robbery. The second sus- pect entered the store while the robbery was taking place.
The first suspect has been identified as 39-year-old Hector Kirkland. Kirk- land was arrested on June 9th after police received tips from Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay.
The second suspect was described as a Black man about 5’10”, weighing about 130 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, black

shorts, a red mask, and carry- ing a gray backpack. He re- mains at large.
This remains an active in- vestigation as Detectives con- tinue their efforts to identify and arrest the second suspect involved in the rob- bery.
