50 Years After Marvin Gaye Asked, 'What's Going On?' Hits No.1
On Itunes R&B Charts
DJ Khaled Scores Third No. 1
Motown legendary crooner
Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" 70s album is now No. 1 on Itunes R&B charts.
As a child, musician Devon Gilfillian remembers his fa- ther, a professional wedding singer, harmonizing with Mar- vin Gaye's iconic "What's Going On" album in their living room. While the groove of the music was palpable, the lyrics were lost on a young Gilfillian.
In a recent interview for a new documentary about Gaye's work, titled "What's Going On: Marvin Gaye's An- them for the Ages," the Grammy-nominated artist and activist recalled rediscovering the album just before heading
MARVIN GAYE
to a protest in Nashville last summer.
His song choice, "What's
Going On," was easy, but per- forming it was not.
"He's saying everything, mother, mother, there's too many of us crying, brother brothers, too many of us dying. Father, we don't need to esca- late. War is not the answer," Gilfillian said. "It hurt to sing those words. I was legitimately sad and upset and angry."
Gilfillian has since released a cover album of "What's Going On," paying homage to a man who was pleading for the world to listen, tackling controversial issues, perhaps, before some could hear them. America wants answers and Gaye wrote one of the if not the best album ever.
Another one!
DJ Khaled earned his third
No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with Khaled Khaled, Bill- board reports. His 12th studio album scored 93,000 equiva- lent album units, with 76,000 comprised of SEA units, equal- ing 106.87 million on-demand streams of the album’s tracks, and 14,000 in album sales. Even though Khaled Khaled didn’t perform as well as his previous effort, Father of Asahd, which amassed 136,000 units in its first week, it was enough to dethrone last week’s No. 1, A Gangsta’s Pain from Moneybagg Yo.
Khaled Khaled features ap- pearances by Drake, Lil Baby, Jay-Z, Nas, Justin Bieber, Justin Timber- lake, and more. While it may seem as though everyone under the sun has worked with Khaled at some point, there is
DJ KHALED
still one artist that he wants to collaborate with. “But I would love to work with André 3000,” he told Lil Baby for XXL. “Maybe you put us on that b**ch together,” Lil Baby responded. “Maybe you put us on there together, me and André 3000.”
Pop Smoke Allegedly Murdered By 15-Year-Old Over Rolex
Pop Smoke was allegedly murdered by a 15-year-old shooter during a home inva- sion robbery last year.
According to the New York Daily News, LAPD Det. Car- los Camacho testified last Friday (May 7) that the teenager was part of a group of intruders that wanted to steal the Brooklyn rapper’s Rolex. They stormed Pop Smoke’s rented mansion in the Holly- wood Hills on Feb. 19, 2020 and tried to take his Cuban link chain, but only got away with the diamond-studded watch, which they later resold for $2,000.
The alleged shooter, the youngest of the four defen-
POP SMOKE
dants, is now facing murder and robbery charges in the case. He allegedly admitted to shooting Pop Smoke during a recorded interview with a
cellmate at a juvenile detention center last May.
“He admitted that he shot the victim three times with a Baretta 9 [mm.],” Camacho testified during a preliminary hearing for Corey Walker, 20, the sole adult suspect in the case.
During the recorded jail in- terview, the 15-year-old al- leged shooter “admitted that they asked for the jewelry” and then had “a confrontation” with Pop Smoke, born Bashar Jackson, during the 4 a.m. home invasion. “They got into a fight, and he shot him three times,” Camacho said. “He said he shot him on the back.”

Bruno Mars’ Las Vegas shows may be sold out, but fear not – here’s how you can still see the singer this summer.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Mars’ six shows scheduled at the Park Theater at Park MGM in July sold out in only a few minutes, which left hundreds of fans without tickets.
