Browns Lineman Greg Robinson Allegedly Caught With 157 Pounds Of Marijuana In Car

Latest On Bucs’ Plans For Jameis Winston, Shaquil Barrett
One of many key players on this offseason’s unusually large quarterback market, Jameis Winston has not been connected to another team just yet.
The Buccaneers have said the former No. 1 overall pick is in their plans, but the team appears to still be determin- ing the structure of Win- ston’s second NFL contract.
The Bucs are considering a two-year deal for Win- ston, with said contract being guaranteed at a fran- chise tag-level rate (of ap- proximately $27M) for the first year and the second being a team option. This would not be an optimal arrangement for most quar- terbacks with Winston’s experience as a starter, but given his inconsistency, a prove-it contract of this sort would make sense for the team.
NFL executives are torn

on Winston, but Jeremy Fowler of ESPN notes (via ESPN+) the expectation is the Bucs will place their fran- chise or transition tag on their quarterback during the Feb. 25-March 10 tag win- dow. Even that strategy is complicated.
A new CBA being agreed to next week would prevent teams from using both their franchise and transition tags.
If no deal is agreed to next week, the 2011 CBA will per- mit teams to use both tags, as the league would shift into final-CBA-year rules. That would help the Bucs, who have Shaquil Barrett looming as a UFA as well.
Tampa Bay brass and Barrett’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, are expected to accelerate talks next week at the Combine.
Bears To Release Prince Amukamara,
Soon-to-be former Cleve- land Browns offensive line- man Greg Robinson was busted near the Mexico– United States border in Texas with 157 pounds of marijuana inside his rented sport utility vehicle last Monday.
Robinson was traveling from Los Angeles to Louisiana with former NFL player and Auburn team- mate Quan Bray, and a third unidentified person when their vehicle was stopped at around 7:15 p.m. on Monday at the Sierra Blanca border checkpoint. An agent at the checkpoint was told to conduct an in- spection after a drug-sniffing dog picked up the scent of marijuana as their car drove by on Interstate 10.
Vacuum-sealed black bags containing marijuana were allegedly found inside
several large duffel bags, along with 23 mason jars, a can-sealing machine, and an electronic scale. Bray also had $3,100 in cash on him. Robinson and Bray were arrested and charged with possessing marijuana with the intention to sell. Both men are being held without bond as they await an ap- pearance in front of a U.S. magistrate judge. They could face up to 20 years in federal prison, if convicted.
The third person, an Uber driver who has driven around and run errands for Robinson's family and friends, provided texts to agents proving that he was unaware of the marijuana in- side the car and wouldn't have gotten in the vehicle if he knew about the drugs.
He also showed texts where Robinson offered him money to take the fall.
Jones Will Likely Stay With Chiefs
Taylor Gabriel
The
moved to clear some cap space on Friday by jettison- ing two starters. They are re- leasing cornerback Prince Amukamara and wide re- ceiver Taylor Gabriel.
Amukamara has been a Bears starter since he signed a one-year deal with Chicago in 2017. The ex-Giants first- round pick re-upped with the team on a long-term deal in 2018.
One season remained on that three-year, $27MM con- tract. Two years remained on Gabriel’s pact. Altogether, the Bears will create $13.5MM in cap space by making these moves.
Gabriel signed a four- year, $26M contract in 2018. That deal had no more guar- anteed money. The ex-Falcon started 18 games for Chicago but battled injuries last sea- son, limiting him to nine games.
Chicago Bears
PRINCE AMUKAMARA AND TAYLOR GABRIEL
Chicago’s offense strug- gled as a whole last season, with Mitchell Trubisky re- gressing. The Bears drafted Anthony Miller and Riley Ridley over the past two years and possess greater needs than the wide receiver spot.
Gabriel caught 96 passes for 1,041 yards and six touch- downs as a Bear. The 29- year-old target will get a head start on the receiver market because of this early cut.
CHRIS JONES
While the Kansas City Chiefs are not planning to let Chris Jones get away, the dynamic interior pass rusher staying in Kansas City long- term is another matter.
The Chiefs have a $20M defensive lineman already, in Frank Clark, and will likely have to give Patrick Ma- homes a deal in the $40MM- AAV neighborhood. Nevertheless, the Chiefs have the UFA-to-be entrenched as their top priority going into March.
