  Happy Anniversary
      NATHANIEL FOSTER 7/15/1939 --- 11/7/2017
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
A popular icon of the West Tampa community died on Tues- day. Mr. Nathaniel Foster was 78-years-old.
A longtime resident of Carver City, Mr. Foster passed at the University Village, after a lengthy illness. His death comes a month after that of his middle daughter, Ms. Cheryl Foster Graham, died.
For decades, Mr. Foster op- erated Foster’s Barber Shop, 1923 W. Main Street. He retired in 2011 after 46 years in the busi- ness. However, the shop remains open under the management of Ben Wright.
Through the years, the shop
became more than just a place for a haircut, it became a hub for men to come together to discuss current events, politics, sports, and the community.
Having opened in 1965, Mr. Foster served generations as men in the area became fathers and brought their sons for hair- cuts.
A Tampa native, Mr. Foster grew up in Hyde Park and at- tended the local schools of Hills- borough County. He graduated from Blake High School in 1959. After graduation, he received his barber training at Jones Barber College in Jacksonville, his daughter, Ms. Natalie Foster said.
He was married to Mrs. Glo- ria Foster for 57 years. To that union, 3 daughters were born. He is survived by his wife, 2 daugh- ters, 2 grandsons, 1 great grand- daughter, other family members and friends.
Ms. Foster described her fa- ther as a “people person” who loved to talk and just enjoyed helping people and enjoying life.
Funeral services for Mr. Foster will take place on Satur- day, November 18th at Ray Williams Funeral Home.
