Brenda was born on March 28, 1944, the daughter of Mary (Hardiman) Turner in Danville, Illinois. She attended the public schools of Danville. She later met and married Jimmy A. Kennedy and spent years raising her two children and being a mil- itary wife.

She not only encouraged and demanded the best from her chil- dren, but if you spent time with her children, you were automati- cally included in whatever bless- ings/ punishment that was being dealt out. Today, many of those same kids consider her to be their second mom and grieve her passing along with her biological children.
Brenda relocated to Tampa in 1993 and, not long thereafter, be- came employed at the Tampa Lighthouse for the Blind, where she worked until she became ill.
She was a faithful member of the Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, where she loved and worked with the Children’s Church ministry until illness pre- vented her from doing so.

A Celebration Service for Mrs. Barbara Jennings Murphy will be held on Saturday, Janu- ary 8, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Wil- son Funeral Home, 3000 N. 29th Street, Tampa, Florida, with Minister Clarence Hammonds, Officiating. Interment will fol- low in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, Florida.
Mrs. Barbara Jean Jennings was born in the summer of 1941, the twelfth of fourteen children, to Clifford and Willie Jennings. She graduated from Middleton High School, Class of 1959.
In 1960, she married Has- pard Richard Murphy, Sr. They were both young and they had four children over the span of a decade. She studied English and received her Bachelor’s Degree in 1983, as her children were graduating from high school and going to college themselves.
She rededicated her life to the Lord in the 1970s after hav- ing grown up in the Baptist church. She had an encounter with the Lord in the kitchen of her home one morning and in it she experienced the love of the Lord. So much so, she would spend the rest of her life sharing it. She is somewhere in heaven now learning the full reach and impact of that sincere, burning desire to share the good news and to see people commit and re-commit their lives to Jesus. Maybe you remember a conver- sation she had with you over the years.
If she began with, “You see, when God made man...,” us kids learned the poor soul she was talking to was locked in for the next hour or so while she told of God’s great love for His mankind.
She was preceded in death by: her husband of 35 years, Col. (Retired) Haspard R. Murphy, Sr., and twelve siblings: Mr. Al- bert Jennings, Sr., Mr. Willie Jennings, Jr., Mrs. Grace Jen- nings Johnson, Mr. Robert Jen- nings, Sr., Mr. Samuel Jennings, Sr., Mr. James Jennings, Sr., Mrs. Mary Jennings Seay, Mrs. Dorothy Jennings Bostic, Mr. Melvin Jennings, Mr. Edward Jennings, Sr., Mr. Raymond Jennings, and Mr. Clarence Jen- nings.
She is survived by: her sister, Mrs. Gloria Ann Blount and family, and many, many kind and doting nieces and nephews; her sister-in-law, Mrs. Virginia Arnao and family, and her four
children: Keith D. Murphy, Dr. Lisa M. Anderson and her hus- band of 30 years Col. (Retired) Thomas R. Anderson, Terryne F. Murphy and her son, Brandon J. Murphy, and LTC (Retired) Has- pard R. Murphy, Jr., and his two sons, Haspard Luke Murphy, Robin Jan Murphy.
We can never repay her, and we will sorely miss her. There will be a viewing on Friday, Jan- uary 7, 2021, at Wilson Funeral Home from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Due to the current CDC restric- tions; we are asking that you use the visitation as an opportunity to pay your final respect.
