Don't Breathe- A group of house burglars (Dylan Minnette, Jane Levy & Daniel Zovatto) break into the house of a blind man who is an ex-military veteran and has plenty of money. The group thought this was the perfect heist, but they were wrong. Director Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead) put together a film that went from a simple burglary to a straight up horror nightmare. A surprise hit! Must-see for horror/suspense fans. Still No. 1 at box office- $51M (budget -$9.9M) - ****.
Kubo And The Two Strings- Young Kubo ( voiced by Art Parkinson ) accidentally summons evil spirits from the past who are set out to destroy him. Kubo joins forces with a monkey ( voiced by Charlize Theron) and Beetle (voiced by Matthew McConaughey) to stop the evil forces. A watchdog group accused Focus film of being insensitive for using white actors to voice Japanese characters. All and all, the animated hero tale was very good. Made 34M (budget- $60M)- ****
Hell or High Water- A divorced Dad (Chris Pine) and his crazy ex-con brother (Ben Foster) resort to robbing banks in order to save their family farm in Texas. A soon to retire Texas Ranger (Jeff Bridges) and his partner set out to stop the bank robbers. Enjoy this drama! Made $14M (budget-$12M)- ****
Pete’s Dragon- A 10-year -old boy named Pete(Oakes Fegley) is lost in the forest become friend’s with a mysterious dragon named Elliott. The drama starts when the city Ranger ( Bryce Dallas Howard) discover the boy and the dragon in the forest. This light-hearted Disney film is strictly for kids. Made $64M (Bud- get-$60M) - ***
Suicide Squad- A secret government led by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), Rick Flagg ( Joel Kinna- man) recruit an imprisoned squad of psycho/crazy supervillians (Deadshot- Will Smith, Harley Quinn- Margot Robbie, Diablo- Jay Hernandez, Boomerang- Jai Courtney, Killer Croc- Adwale Agabaje, and Katena- Karen Fukuhara) for a suicide mission against the evil witch Enchantress (Cara Delevingne). The Squad also have their hands full with the diabolical Joker ( Jared Leto) and Batman (Ben Affleck), Director David Ayers did a great job concentrating on how mentally disturb the Suicide Squad and Joker were. . Very entertaining or insane. The soundtrack is awesome. Must-see for action fans. Made $300M-U.S/for- eign-$378M (budget- $175M)- ****
Jason Bourne- Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) is drawn out of hiding by CIA director (Tommy Lee Jones) to uncover hidden truths about his past. The star of this film was the intelligence expert Heather Lee(Alicia Vikander). This movie shows how the U.S. government can track down whoever and send a task squad to do whatever anywhere in the world. Made- $155M U.S./ foreign-$223M (budget- $120M)- ***1/2
Lights Out- This low budget horror movie is a box office hit. Rebecca (Teresa Palmer) and her little brother Martin (Gabriel Bateman) come face to face with an evil spirit that is their mother's friend.
This horror film pulled all stops to keep you jumping throughout. A plus for being original. Made $66M (budget- $4.9M)- ****
Ghostbusters (2016)- After a ghost invasion in New York City, a new crew of paranormal enthusiasts (Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones) band together to stop the evil threat taking over the city. This film was surprisingly funny. Must- see for laughs. Made $124M ( budget-$146M)- ****
The Secret Life Of Pets- A terrier named Max’ (voiced by Louis C.K.) quiet life comes to an end when his owner brings home a stray dog named Duke (voiced by Eric Stonestreet). The two dogs fight against each other until they run into a slick rabbit named Snowball (voiced by Kevin Hart). Hart’s voice brings this animation to life. Kids and adults will enjoy this film. Made- $353M (budget- $75M)- ****
DAYS OF OUR LIVES: Clyde introduces Orpheus to Xander, and it’s clear he still has it in for Theresa... In prison, Orpheus, Clyde and Xander continue to grind axes over the people in Salem who did them wrong before being called away for their transfers.
YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS: Billy reaches his breaking point. Jill traps Phyllis. Billy crosses a line where Jill's concerned. Summer visits Luca in jail. Jill plots to get rid of Travis.
