Co-Workers Surprise Single Dad Who Walked 11 Miles To Work With Car
LITTLE ROCK, AR —- For seven months, Trenton Lewis would walk 11 long miles to work, getting up way before dawn in order to arrive on time for his 4 a.m. shift.
When he was hired for the job at a UPS facility in Little Rock, Arkansas, Lewis, 21, didn't have transportation and "was banking on my feet," he told CNN.
A single father to 14-month- old Karmen, he never told his coworkers about his trek, be- cause "my pride is strong," he said, and he would do whatever was necessary to provide for his child.
Despite his attempt to keep this under wraps, coworker Pa- tricia "Mama Pat" Bryant found out Lewis was walking 11 miles each way to and from work, and she quietly came up with a plan: She would raise enough money to buy Lewis a car.
Their colleagues pitched in, and the team came up with $2,000 to purchase a used car. Bryant's husband, Kenneth,

fixed a tiny blemish on the bumper, and the 2006 Saturn Ion was ready for Lewis.
His co-workers told him to come outside for a quick union meeting, and that's when they surprised him with his new wheels.
He thanked everyone for their support and promised he was "never going to forget this, ever."

‘George Zimmerman 2.0’ Found Guilty Of Killing Unarmed Black Man
RALEIGH, NC — In a case that drew comparisons to the fatal shooting of Trayvon Mar- tin by a neighborhood watch volunteer, a white North Car- olina man was found guilty of murder last Thursday for gun- ning down an unarmed 20-year- old black man after complaining about “hoodlums” outside his house.
A jury in Wake County, N.C., deliberated for less than two hours before finding Chad Cop- ley, 40, guilty of premeditated first-degree murder in the shoot- ing death of Kouren-Rodney Thomas who was leaving a house party in August 2016, the Associated Press reported.
An attorney for Thomas’s family called Copley “George Zimmerman 2.0.”
According to the Washington Post, Copley told the dis- patcher, “I’m on neighborhood

watch. I am going to have the neighborhood meet these hood- lums out here racing up and down the street,” he told the dis- patcher. “There’s some devil in them. They have firearms, and we’re going to secure our neigh- borhood.” At one point during the call he could be heard saying, “I’m going to kill them.”
He grabbed his shotgun and took a post in his garage. Min- utes later, he called 911 again, saying he “fired a warning shot, and we got somebody that got hit.”
“There’s freaking black males outside my freaking house with firearms. Please, send PD,” he said.

 Boys And Girls Clubs

CALIFORNIA — The Marvel Studios owner is donating to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in celebration of "Black Panther's" financial success. The donation will support the organization's youth STEM programs, accord- ing to a news release.
Walt Disney Company is do- nating a one-time grant of $1 million to Boys & Girls Club of America in Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Harlem, Hartford, Memphis, New Orleans, Oak- land, Orlando, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and Watts.
Black Panther can’t be touched since the movie obliter- ated box office records for two consecutive weeks. Whether it’s a love for everything Marvel or
the portrayal of strong Black characters, there was something for everyone, but what’s most fascinating is the technologi- cally-advanced city of Wakanda.
Inspired by the movie, the grant will help expand pro- grams in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and establish Centers of Innovation.
The fictional city sparked a necessary conversation about the underrepresentation of black and Latino people in the STEM industry. A 2018 Pew Re- search Center study finds black and Latino people make up nine percent and seven percent in STEM occupations, respec- tively.
