Supervisor Of Elections Offers Voter Registration Online
Hillsborough County Seeks Applicants For Diversity Advisory Council
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
This year, the Primary Elections will take place on August 28, 2018. In order to participate in the election, individuals must be regis- tered no later than July 30th.
In an effort to provide different avenues for voters to register, Craig La- timer, Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elec- tions is introducing a new voting tool. Individuals can now visit the website and become a registered voter on- line.
Ms. Gerri Kramer,
CRAIG LATIMER Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections
said employees with the Su- pervisor of Elections Office visit schools to provide op- portunities for students to
register. “We have already gone to several schools. But if a student didn’t have the opportunity while we were there, he or she can register online.
“In order to register, he or she must have a Florida driver’s license or identifi- cation card and must know the last 4 digits of his or her Social Security number. Anyone who wants to change their party must do so by the deadline.”
Ms. Kramer further said that students who are 16 or older can register to vote. However, they cannot cast a ballot until they turn 18 years of age.
Hillsborough County is seeking interested residents to serve on the Diversity Advisory Council.
The Council was created to facilitate communication between Hillsborough County government and di- verse populations, and to address matters related to diversity that affect County government and its citi- zens.
The Council is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners and is com- prised of two individuals from each of the following categories: African Ameri- can; Caribbean; Far East Asian; Gay, Lesbian, Bisex- ual, and Transgender; His- panic/Latino; Indian Asian; Middle Eastern; Native American; Northern and Southern European; People with Disabilities; and At- Large (Identification with a specific category is not re- quired).
Four positions are va- cant. Three terms expire 8/31/18, and one term ex- pires 8/31/19. Positions are specified as individuals from the following cate- gories: African American; Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender; Native Amer- ican; and Indian Asian.
All nominees must reside in and be registered voters in Hillsborough County. Appointments are voluntary positions; therefore, mem-
bers serve without compen- sation.
The deadline to apply is Wednesday, March 14, 2018.
Citizens interested in being considered for ap- pointment must submit: 1) an essay of 200-500 words highlighting what your goals would be as a member of the Diversity Advisory Council and state why you are most suited to carry forth those goals; 2) a completed Ques- tionnaire for the Diversity Advisory Council; and 3) a Standards of Conduct Form.
Applicants declining to submit an essay will be eliminated from further consideration for service on the Diversity Advisory Council of Hillsborough County.
The forms are available in the Commissioners’ re- ception area on the second floor of County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd. in down- town Tampa; by calling the Boards and Councils Coor- dinator at (813) 272-5826; or on the County’s website at HCFLGov.net. Forms must be signed and dated.
