When the Elder Dr. Thomas J. (T. J.) Reed be- came the pastor of Grace Mary Missionary Baptist Church, those who are now parents and grandparents were the young people he groomed. They became mem- bers of the T. J. Reed Singers (4 generations) and the T. J. Reed Angel Choir.
That was more than 40 years ago.
On Friday, July 24, 2020, those parents and grandpar- ents had to say goodbye to their beloved pastor. Elder Dr. Reed passed away in a local hospital after a short ill- ness. He was 84 years old.
Elder Dr. Reed retired in 2016 as Pastor Emeritus.
His church was a member of the Progressive Missionary and Education Baptist State Convention of Florida, Inc. He was moderator of the Gulfcoast Association for more than 30 years.
Elder Dr. Reed was also an educator. He taught in the Hillsborough County School System for 28 years.
Elder Dr. Reed is sur- vived by his wife of 59 years, Mary H. Reed, daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and John Loblack, grandchil- dren, the Grace Mary Family, and others.
Funeral services are planned for next weekend. Wilson Funeral Home is han- dling the arrangements.
