Man Charged In Shooting That Left 1 Dead, 1 Injured
Man Charged With Trying To Kidnap Child From Motel Room
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 20-year-old man in connec- tion with a murder. The dou- ble shooting took place around 4 a.m., Monday.

is charged with second-de- gree murder and attempted first-degree murder premed- itated with a firearm.
Detectives responded to a shooting in the 13000 block of Clerment Pride Blvd., in Riverview. When they ar- rived, a female victim was pronounced dead at the scene and a man had been taken to a local hospital suf- fering from gunshot injuries. He was listed in critical con- dition.
The victim, Ms. Haley Portner, was identified on Facebook.
As the investigation un- folded, detectives developed

leads that led them to a His- panic man as a person of in- terest.
After locating the person of interest later identified as Jordan Jaime Silver, he was questioned by police. After several interviews, de- tectives learned that Silver intentionally shot and killed

the adult female with a hand- gun. She was reportedly film- ing a music video along with several others.
He also allegedly shot a man before fleeing the scene. Witnesses told police the shooting was unprovoked. The investigation is continu-
ing.
Police arrested a 24-year-old man after he allegedly at- tempted to take a child from a motel room. The child’s mother was able to grab her child and escape from the room.
She then notified police. The unidentified woman and child were not injured.
According to police, at ap- proximately 9:40 a.m., Sunday the mother told police that she and her young daughter were in her motel room when an un- known Hispanic man entered and tried to take her child.
The suspect picked up the child in front of the mother, but the mother was able to gain control of the child before he walked out the door. The sus- pect fled on foot.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they located the man hiding in the shrubs of a nearby business park. He was identified as Gabriel Martin

and was taken into custody. Martin has been charged with kidnapping, burglary of an occupied dwelling with bat- tery, and violation of proba- tion. He was already on probation for Possession of MDMA and Armed Burglary charges out of Manatee
County.

Two Charged With Organized Retail Crimes
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office concluded an investi- gation into organized retail crimes with two arrests. The investigation began in April 2020.
According to police, de- tectives were contacted by loss prevention employees from Home Depot and Lowe’s in Lakeland on April 22nd. Detectives were in- formed about a series of or- ganized retail thefts that had taken place on three separate occasions.
A security video from a Lowe’s Store reportedly showed Ms. Shenicka Whittington, 44, leaving the store with Yeti brand coolers and laundry deter- gent. The value of the mer- chandise was $552.89.
On May 21st, Ms. Whit- tington was allegedly seen removing several Yeti brand items from the same store without paying for it. The cost of that merchandise was $209.97.
Detectives said on July 24th, deputies responded to a Home Depot, where Ms. Whittington was observed leaving the store with a shop- ping cart full of merchandise. Her boyfriend, 55-year-old Joseph Lamar, was report- edly standing next to a vehi-

cle waiting for Ms. Whit- tington, police said.
During the investigation, police learned that Ms. Whittington and Lamar had entered the Home Depot Store 3 times that day. They reportedly took fuel boxes, a gas pressure washer, chain- saws, a reciprocating saw, Bluetooth headphones, and other items without paying for them. The items were worth $3,028.83. The items were recovered from the shopping cart Ms. Whit- tington was using and the vehicle, police said.
Lamar was charged with coordinated retail theft. Ms. Whittington was charged with coordinated retail theft, giving s false name to law en- forcement, and violation of probation felony petit theft/3rd conviction.
Ms. Whittington is also being detained on warrants for theft out of Orange and Hillsborough Counties.
