sessed had been stolen from residences in the South Tampa area.
On several occasions, law enforcement officers met with Haggins and Balfrey, and purchased drugs and stolen firearms from them. While ex- ecuting a federal search war- rant at their residence, law enforcement seized three firearms, ammunition, pow- der cocaine, marijuana, and $2,636 in cash.
As a previously convicted felon, Haggins is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law.
Balfrey pleaded guilty to narcotics and firearms of- fenses previously. He was sen- tenced on May 27, 2016, to 12 years and 7 months in federal prison.
A Hillsborough County deputy was arrested early Fri- day. His arrest has resulted in his being suspended from his job without pay, pending the outcome of the investigation.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at approxi- mately 3:30 a.m., their 9-1-1 center was notified of a possi- ble wrong-way driver travel- ling southbound on I-75. The driver was just north of the Hillsborough and Manatee County line.
The center then received another call that the same small SUV, still traveling in the wrong direction on I-75, had struck a tractor trailer that was traveling in the outside lane of I-75. The driver of the vehicle continued traveling in the wrong direction on the inter- state.
Trooper Shawn Edge re- sponded to the scene to inves- tigate the hit and run accident. He learned that no injuries had been sustained by the driver. However, it was esti- mated that the SUV had sus- tained heavy damage to te front end.
Trooper Edge located an SUV with heavy front damage on the inside shoulder of I-75 at Mile Marker 232. The vehi- cle had been abandoned.
Hillsborough County deputies joined Trooper Edge and he set up a barrier. The owner of the vehicle was later found on the west side of

Police also learned that Garrett is currently employed as a deputy by the Hillsbor- ough County Sheriff’s Office. Garrett was booked int0 the Hillsborough County Jail.
A spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said Garrett has been suspended without pay. He joined the Sheriff’s Office in October 2011.
