County Issues Emergency Ban On Outdoor Burning
Last Thursday, Hillsbor- ough County issued an Emer- gency Ban on burning outdoors. The ban is an Exec- utive Order approved by the Emergency Policy Group.
Under the ban: A local state of emergency is de- clared; All outdoor open burning is prohibited. The only exception is burning that has been specifically allowed in writing by the Florida Forest Service.
Any authorized out- door burning shall be conducted in strict com- pliance with state statutes, agency rules, or any other written condi- tions imposed by the agency or department.
Any person conduct- ing outdoor burning au- thorized by a state agency shall provide a copy of the written authorization
to the Emergency Dis- patch Center no less than 24 hours prior to con- ducting the burn.
The order bans fire- works and sparklers. Outdoor grilling is al- lowed, as long as the flames are contained within a grill or other fireproof container, and the fire is constantly at- tended and extinguished fully.
The Emergency Ban fol- lows a brush fire last Thurs- day in Hillsborough County. Firefighters battled the blaze for about 90 minutes and were able to contain it to 2 acres.
Officials said the fire was started by a discarded ciga- rette. The ban remains into effect until May 4th. However, it can be extended, depending on drought conditions.
