The Bay Area Brotherhood (BAB) held its 2017 Easter event for children at Wellswood Park.
“I had never heard of Wellswood Park until a few days ago when Sister Karen Smith said we were having our Annual Easter Egg Hunt there,” states Odie Jones, Jr., who shared information from the event.
The Bay Area Brotherhood, who operates out of MacDill AFB, FL, has been in the area for 44 years. The organization is best known for its Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Ban- quet held in January. The organization’s motto is “Helping Disadvantaged Children.” They also sponsor “Operation Santa Claus” and “Project 100.”
The Easter Egg Hunt was held on Saturday, April 15, 2017. It was a very special day for over 100 children, ages 2 to 12. The group extends gratitude to Ms. Patty Martin, City of Tampa, Parks and Recreation Department for
her cooperation with the BAB to sponsor an outstanding affair for the children in the Wellswood Park neighborhood. Because there was a baseball game scheduled at the park, the egg hunt was held from 10 a. m. to 1 p. m. The time of day didn’t matter to the kids because they were there from start to finish for the face-painting, snow cone-licking, egg-hunting, and pizza-eating. The Easter Bunny walked around giving the kids
a big hug.
Prizes were given to the child
who found the golden egg (it had money inside), and the child who found the most eggs was awarded a special prize. There were plenty of chips and drinks to go with the pizza.
