C. Blythe Andrews, Jr. Public Library To Close On Saturday
Alumni Asked To Support Naming Of Middleton Media Center
On Saturday, April 15th, the C. Blythe Andrews, Jr., Public Library, 2607 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd., will close. The purpose of the clo- sure is for demolition, fol- lowed by construction of a new building.
Demolition of the current building is slated for May 2017. The new building is slated for completion in late 2018.
The new building is in re- sponse to the changing needs of customers and higher usage. The new building will be con- structed at the same location.
It will feature larger meet- ing spaces, a recording studio, a computer lab, a separate area
for children featuring comput- ers and learning stations. It will also feature an African American media archive and a Friends of the Library book- store.
During the period in which the library will be closed, se- lected services will be offered at two locations. Printing, copying, faxing, free Internet and computer use, and re- served materials pickup will be available at Cyrus Greene Recreation Center, 2101 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., beginning on May 1, 2017, until May 31, 2017; and August 6, 2017 until December 2018. The services will be available on Mondays, Wednesdays,
and Fridays, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The services will be offered at the Ragan Park Community Center, 1200 E. Lake Ave., be- ginning June 1 until July 31, 2017; and from June 1, 2018 until July 31, 2018. The days of availability are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
For other library needs, several other libraries are lo- cated in the area. They are: the Robert W. Saunders, Sr., Pub- lic Library, 1505 Nebraska Ave., and the Seminole Heights Branch Library, 4711 Central Ave.

For several years, Dr. Frankye Berry was a main- stay at the former Middleton High School. During her tenure, Dr. Berry taught Eng- lish, Speech, and Drama during the Segregation Era.
She also published the poems written by students in a booklet and directed school plays. She began teaching in the 1930s and continued until the 1970s.
After the school closed, Dr. Berry returned to school her- self and earned her Ph.D. De- gree from the University of Florida. She went on to teach at two colleges in South Carolina, before retiring. Dr. Berry was a native of Atlanta, GA.
Her only child, Mrs. Brenda Watkins Williams, currently lives in Broward County with her family.
Dr. Berry, known as “Miss Berry,” was known as a strong disciplinarian who prepared her students to be successful in life.
In remembrance of Dr. Berry, a group of supporters are attempting to name the Media Center at the new Mid- dleton High School in honor of Dr. Frankye A. Berry.
