Four years ago, out of a unified common interest, community safety 16 neigh- bors partnered with the Tampa Police Department to organize as the Jackson Heights Neighborhood Crime Watch. Continuous membership increases and community concerns led to reorganization. With the sup- port of City Councilman Frank Reddick as advisor and training provided by Miray Holmes, Manager, Community Partnerships and Neighborhood Engage- ment, Jackson Heights Neighborhood Association and Crime Watch formed on January 31, 2017.
“Our mission is to create working relationships with the city, support civic func- tions, provide and encourage community beautification and pride, as well as address neighborhood issues and safety,” states Ms. Fran Tate, President.
The group’s first project, a community yard sale, took place on June 17th at the Jackson Heights NFL YET Center.
The second project, a neighborhood street clean- up, is scheduled for Saturday, August 5th. The group will gather at the NFL YET Cen- ter, 3310 E. Lake Avenue, 7:30 a. m. – 12 Noon. A light
breakfast will be provided. Students are encouraged to participate, as community
service hours will be issued. All neighbors are invited to attend the informative meetings as well as join. "A community is only as great as its neighbors!" The associa-
tion meets on the 3rd Tues- day of the month at the NFL
YET Center, 6:30 p. m.-7:30 p. m.
