County Extends Emergency Ban On Outdoor Burning
Last week, Hillsborough County issued an Emergency Ban on burning outdoors. The ban is an Executive Order approved by the Emer- gency Policy Group.
On Wednesday, the ban was extended until at least May 11th. Officials said high tempera- tures and dry conditions increase the danger of wildfires.
Under the ban: A local state of emer- gency is declared; all outdoor open
burning is prohibited. The only excep- tion is burning that has been specifically allowed in writing by the Florida Forest Service.
The order bans fireworks and sparklers. Outdoor grilling is allowed, as long as the flames are contained within a grill or other fireproof con- tainer, and the fire is constantly at- tended and extinguished fully.
Four Golf Legends To Host Tournament
On Tuesday, May 9th, members of Four Golf Leg- ends will host a tournament for youth, adults, and golfers who are challenged by hear- ing or visual impairment.
Registration for the tour- nament at Rogers Golf Course, 7910 N. 30th Street, begins at 7:30 a.m., with breakfast. The Shotgun Start
begins at 8:30 a.m.
The Annual Tournament
was founded by George Shaw and named in recogni- tion of four local African American golf legends: Charlie Owens, Jim Dent, Calvin Peete and James Black.
Its purpose is to provide interactive and educational
learning experience for both youth and senior golfers.
One of the legends recog- nized is Charlie Owens, who despite his disabilities became a legend in the indus- try. He was also injured dur- ing his tour of duty in the Korean Conflict.
Anyone wishing to obtain additional information about the tournament or the organ- ization can call (813) 230- 4590.
