The Bridges Over Trou- bled Waters, Inc., Board of Directors announces its re- cipient of the 2018 Annual Al Dixon Scholarship.
Tykeem McCord, a graduate of the Jefferson High School class of 2018 has received a $1,000.00 award. At Jefferson, Tykeem was a member of the National Honor Society, National Eng- lish Honor Society, National Society of High School Schol- ars, the National Technical Honor Society, Student Gov- ernment Association and Jef- ferson High School Leaders Club. During his time there he achieved a 4.6 overall Grade Point Average (GPA).
Subsequent to gradua- tion, he matriculated to Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. It is here that he aspires to obtain a degree in Multimedia Jour- nalism. The financial sup- port he received from “Bridges Over Troubled Wa- ters” can be used at his dis- cretion to assist with educational expenses.
Tykeem noted that he was “determined to overcome (the label of a learning dis- ability) ... by attending tutor- ing with eagerness to grow academically. I’ve developed the mindset to not settle for the minimum and continue to carry this throughout my journey.”
Tykeem’s high motiva- tion to succeed certainly ex- emplifies the kind of character that the late Al Dixon, a long-time Hillsbor- ough County Public School educator, sought to inculcate and infuse in the students he taught and mentored.
As President of the Board, Irving Ward states that, “Tykeem is a well-deserving student and we are honored to assist in his educational pursuit by bestowing upon
ing the Al Dixon Scholarship. Donations may be mailed to
