  Blake Earns Bragging Rights After Heritage Classic
The James “Big Jim” Williams Stadium was packed with “new school” and “old school” fans at the 14th Annual Heritage Classic, which pitted the Middleton High Tigers against the Blake High Yellow Jackets.
Blake earned bragging rights and a take-home trophy with the 19- 16 win over Middleton. Blake Junior running back, Omarion Cole- man scored the winning touchdown to give Blake the victory. Omarion Coleman was named Player of the Week by the Tampa Bay Times.
Coach Duane Thomas was quoted as saying that Omarion is “the perfect student-athletic and the hardest worker on the team.”
Blake and Middleton MVP awards were presented by Pastor Coach K. L. Muldrow of the General Assembly Church of the First Born, Bishop Francis S. Davis, Sr. Pastor.
The Blake Marching Yellow Jackets and the Middleton Marching Tigers provided crowd pleasing performances during half-time. Jazz artist and Blake graduate (2009) BK Jackson, had the crowd on its feet during his Saxophone performance with the Marching Yellow Jackets. BK Jackson toured with Prince and is currently touring with Trombone Shorty.
The Blake Athletic Booster Club hosted this year’s Heritage Clas- sic. On-field presentations acknowledged the Heritage Classic Title Sponsor, Dr. and Mrs. Earl Cotman; the Black and Gold Spon- sor, Michelle B. Patty; and the Yellow Jackets Sponsor, Edward and Frances Cheeks Jennings Family.
Families of the late James Lee Robinson and the late Harold B. Scott Jr., accepted awards on behalf of the honorees for their out- standing service to Blake High School athletic programs.
The 2018 Heritage Classic was dedicated to Miss Blake High, 1957-1971. Cynthia Flowers, 1959, Dolores Hodgins McIntosh, 1961, Jacqueline Nickson Cotman, 1964, Chestine Bell, 1967, and Michelle Love, 1971 were present along with representatives for all other queens.
The Blake Athletic Booster Club Humanitarian Award Recipients are: Vera Canty, 1959, Ron Crumbley, Hazel Gooden, 1959, Erma Griffin, 1960, Jacqueline Hanes, William Jenkins, 1964, Raymond Palmer, 1965, Jesse Salters, Wanda Seigler 1971, Arnold Watson, 1966, Jake Williams, 1969, and Steve Williams.
The Heritage Classic committee expresses gratitude to all Yellow Jackets, Tigers, community supporters and Tamara Shamburger, School Board member, for their outstanding support.

   Dr. Kim Moore, Principal of Middleton, watched as her Tigers lost the game by 3 points.
The Yellow Jackets Marching Band was overjoyed to have one of its former members to perform with them on the field. Now a professional musician, BK Jackson played his saxophone with the band during halftime.
  The Blake Heritage Classic Committee invited all former Miss Blake High queens, 1957-1971, to attend the game. Several of them were in attendance.
