MRS. BETTYE GREENE JOHNSON
The Celestial Graduation Cel- ebration for Mrs. Bettye Greene Johnson, who entered Heaven’s elevated life realm on May 28, 2018, will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Allen Temple A.M.E. Church, 2101 N. Lowe Street, Tampa, FL 33605, Rev. Dr. Glenn B. Dames, Jr., Pastor/ Officiant. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Bettye was born on December 29, 1953, to the late David Till- mon, Sr., and the late Vera Nash Floyd, in Tampa, Florida. Shortly after her birth, she was placed in the loving arms of Mother Stella Greene Temple and remained in Mother Stella’s care, custody, and control for her entire life. Bet- tye’s multi-faceted talents have been manifested in the gifts of help and administration, singing, photography, journalism, com- puter technology, radio broad- casting, and shopping conquests.
Bettye exhibited her commit- ment to spiritual excellence by serving as a member of Greater Mt. Carmel A.M.E. Church, and now at Allen Temple A.M.E. Church. She was
dedicated to operating efficiently in many ministries of her local church and was faithful in sup- porting the district, state and na- tional conferences of the A.M.E. Church. Bettye embraced her “greeter” ministry as ordained by the Lord because of the vast reve- lations she would have of those needing the impartation of mirth and love.
Bettye was educated in the schools of Hillsborough County and graduated from Middleton Senior High School in 1971. She acquired greater knowledge at Hillsborough Community College and through advanced studies provided by the City of Tampa during her employment.
Bettye’s administrative skills were utilized at the City of Tampa Utility Accounting Divi- sion and she retired as a Super- visor after working 361⁄2 years. She participated in the City’s Black History Committee and served as President for several years. She also served in the Woods & Wanton Chapter, Inc. of the Buffalo Soldiers, contin- ued ventures of the Black His- tory Committee, Allen Temple Couples Ministry, and a count- less number of functions of Mid- dleton High School Class of 1971.
Love’s full expression was chronicled on July 28, 2005, when she was joined in holy mat- rimony to Don L. Johnson. She frequently bubbled with excite- ment when sharing the travel ad- ventures they enjoyed, exploring the cuisines of various restau- rants, constructing photo al- bums of family gatherings, and evolving into a Master Chef.
“Family fervor” was the pulse of Bettye’s existence. Re- searching and publishing family connections gave her immense pleasure. In addition to those named and indicated, remem- bering her lovingly are: devoted husband, Don L. Johnson; chil- dren, Sybil, Don, Andrew, Ger- ald, Ralph and Algenia; siblings, Beryl, Reginald, Theresa, Cyn- thia, Michelle, Ondra, David, Wanda, Gloria and Donnda; grandchildren, Aubriana, Phoebe, Naomi, Wesley, Ruh, Brenton, Brianna, Andrea, An- drus, Wayne and Amber.
It would cause enormous lament to Bettye’s heart to miss naming any person. However, space is inadequate to name every family member and friend who touched her life. Therefore, “everyone who has alphabets from a to z in their name” is now acknowledged here — you know who you are!
Bettye believed that life should be shared. In light of this ideology, Bettye has requested that, instead of flowers, any funds be donated to the City of Tampa Black History Committee for the President’s Scholarship.
The remains will repose from 5 p.m.– 8 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2018, at Wilson Funeral Home, 3000 North 29th Street, Tampa, Florida.
Friends are asked to assem- ble at the church on Saturday at approximately 10:45 a.m. for the service.
