PRECIOUS MEMORIES WHEN MAMA KISSED THE HURT AWAY
MRS. LEILA S. WILLIAMS 11-22-1922 – 8-22-2002
Most recently, having experienced the death of a beloved friend and surviving a crucial health episode, my mind scrolled back to my childhood days when Mama would kiss the hurt away. Some of you experience hurt and pain when you ran and accidently hit your head on the dresser; cut a finger on broken glass; fell off a bicycle and bruised a knee or forehead. Perhaps, the drowning death of a grade school friend while celebrating her birthday; a pet parrot died; or the pigeons you raised flew away and did not return. Oh, what hurt and pain you may have felt.
In the lyrics of the gospel song, “I’m so glad troubles, heartache and pain does not last always.” Psalms 30:5, assures us, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”
A most indelible and everlasting memory is when Mama lovingly said, “Let me kiss the hurt away!”
Oh, what precious memories of how she would hold you tightly in her arms; whispered comforting words in your ear; while still kissing the hurt away in a motherly way.
Since those childhood days, each of us has had various kinds of hurtful and painful experiences. Nevertheless, we are still benefit- ing from Mama’s kisses, prayers, encouraging words and enduring love. Well, Mama is asleep in the presence of the Lord.
Until we meet her again, Dave Furman, author of “Kiss the Wave: Embracing God in Your Trails,” writes: Hardship, sorrow, disability, persecution, and death are not good in themselves. But, God in His grace uses them for our good and His glory.
We have a grateful heart, thanks be to God for having a Mama, whose precious memories of her kissing our hurt and pain away lingers in our hearts and lives.
Goodnight Mama, We shall see you in the morning!
Lovingly, Juanita, Leatricia, Earliest, Valretha, Maggie, Norma, Michele, and grandchildren.
