OTHELLO HUNTER ...Inducted Into Basketball Hall Of Fame
Hillsborough Community College (HCC) Men’s Basket- ball alumnus, Othello Hunter, is the first HCC player in the history of the college to enter the Florida College System Activities As- sociation (FCSAA) Basket- ball Hall of Fame.
Hunter played for HCC Men’s Basketball from 2004- 2006 and was named the 2005-2006 HCC Male Stu-
dent-Athlete of the Year and an NJCAA All American team member.
In 2006, Hunter was named to the FCSAA/NJCAA all-tourna- ment team, all-state team and was a first team all-con- ference selection. He is still HCC’s all-time leader in re- bounding and blocked shots.
After graduating from HCC, Othello Hunter
played for The Ohio State University. In his first year, he led the Buckeyes to a na- tional championship appear- ance and to an NIT Championship the following year. Othello went on to play professionally for the Atlanta Hawks before leav- ing to play overseas in Eu- rope.
“Othello continues to give his time, talents and do- nations to Hillsborough Community College,” said HCC Athletic Director and Men’s Basketball Coach Derrick Worrels. “Oth- ello comes back every year, splitting time between his home in Winston-Salem, NC, and here in Tampa, working with our student-athletes. He has been one of the most re- spected young men in the history of our program, both on and off the court.”
     It’s Time To Vote!
 For Solid Waste Truck Art
This art by Nef of Blake High School won first place for high school students.
The City of Tampa’s De- partment of Solid Waste and Environmental Program Management invites you to cast your vote in the 12th An- nual 3Rs’ Art Contest Win- ner.
The annual 3Rs’ Art Con- test, an outreach priority of the Department, is designed to engage Tampa’s youth and partner with them to commu- nicate the importance of recy- cling and waste reduction programs.
Several local schools and after school programs annu- ally identify students from every grade level to partici- pate in the recycling educa- tion program. At the end of the program, participants creatively convey the “recy- cling right” message through art and poetry. Those partic- ipants become recycling ad- vocates for the community.
The program has grown significantly over the years.
Last year, more than 100 par- ticipants from 5 schools and 8 after-school programs en- tered the contest.
Residents are able to vote for their favorite submission on-line from Friday, Feb- ruary 9, 2018 through March 9, 2018, by visiting the Department’s website at www.tampagov.net/solid- waste. There will also be op- portunities to vote in person at the Gasparilla Art Festival and other local events.
The first place winning artist for each grade level, (el- ementary, middle and high) will be recognized in person by the Mayor and their art- work will be displayed on a City of Tampa recycling truck for one year.
For additional questions or concerns, please call the City of Tampa’s Department of Solid Waste and Environ- mental Program Manage- ment at (813) 348-1146, or visit our website at www.tampagov.net/solid- waste.
