AT&T To Honor 7 Leaders During UNCF Luncheon

On Tuesday, February 20th, members of the com- munity will gather at the Tampa Marriott West- shore. The purpose of the gathering is the 12th Annual United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Luncheon. It will begin at 11:30 a.m.
The keynote speaker for the event is Andrew Young, former U. S. Am- bassador to the United Na- tions. Ms. Deiah Riley will serve as the Mistress of Ceremony.
In addition to the tradi- tional Black History Pro- gram, AT&T will also honor seven local residents. Shar- ing “History By Us,” the event will highlight African Americans in the Tampa Bay Area who have made an impact on their respec- tive communities.

The honorees are:
Derrick Brooks, re- tired National Football League football player for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is the founder of Der- rick Brooks Charities, Inc. and works in the commu- nity to provide youth with educational programs and opportunities to develop a cultural and social vision. He is the recipient of the Champion of Education Award.

career. Attorney Joyner is being recognized as the first African American woman from Hillsborough County to serve in both the Florida House of Represen- tatives and the Florida Sen- ate for a total of 16 years. She is the first African American woman to serve as Democratic leader.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Norma Robinson are being recognized for having developed commu- nity initiatives and as- sumed volunteer leadership roles to revive Sulphur Springs. They are also the founders of the Sulphur Springs Museum and Heritage Center Mu- seum.
