Bucs Prepare For Regular Season Opener After Win Over The Dolphins
Bucs Sign Jennings
TIM JENNINGS
It didn’t take the Tampa Bay Buccaneers long to sign a new cornerback to their roster.
Shortly after his release from the Chicago Bears, the Bucs agreed to terms with free agent cornerback Tim Jennings.
Jennings has a history with Bucs head coach Lovie Smith during his tenure with the Bears. He’s also well known by defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, who was an assistant with the Indianapolis colts when the Cols drafted Jen- nings.
The Bucs appear to be set at cornerback with starters Alter- raun Verner and Johnthan Banks, but Jennings could compete with Mike Jenkins for a backup role or challenge Sterling Moore for the nick- elback job.
Jennings, 31, is a 10-year NFL veteran and two-time Pro Bowler before the Bears re- leased him August 30th.
McNary Not Guilty Of Rape, Other Charges
JOSH MCNARY
A jury has found former Indi- anapolis Colts linebacker Josh McNary not guilty of rape and other charges.
McNary was charged with rape, criminal confinement and battery. He said he will try to continue his football career.
He described the whole expe- rience as "traumatic" and "tragic."
Defense attorney Jessie Cook said there was "over- whelming reasonable doubt," regarding the accuser's actions. Cook said McNary taking the stand in his own defense helped his case.
Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry said they're con- fident that the jurors have "con- scientiously considered the facts" and they "accept" the ver- dict.
Shaq Thinks He And Kobe Could
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and head coach Lovie Smith got a chance to see how former Heisman Trophy winner, and number one overall draft pick, quarterback Jameis Win- ston, held up in a professional game, and although Winston got banged up a bit, his per- formance was optimistic. Tak- ing Thursday night off, Winston took a back seat and gave the reigns to his backup, Mike Glennon, who played the first half and went 11-for- 20 for 141 yards, one touch- down, and two interceptions.
The Bucs defeated the Dol-
phins 22-17, and now are preparing for their opening regular season game against the Tennessee Titans and an- other former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback, Marcus Mariotta.
The Dolphins also let their top two quarterback, Ryan Tannehill and Matt Moore take the night off.
The Bucs finished their pre- season 2-2 and lost starting guard Garrett Gilkey, backup defensive end Larry English, and backup defen- sive end T. J. Fatinikun to injuries.
Shaq and Kobe Bryant won three NBA titles together which sounds like a lot until you realize that Michael Jor- dan won six almost by himself.
“I think we could’ve either tied Michael or surpassed Mike,”O’Neal said on the Rich Eisen Show. “Mike has six. You know, everybody talks about Bill Russell’s 11. No player will ever come along and get 11 championships unless they reduce the league to 10 teams. So now Mike, when it comes to the pinnacle of cham- pionships, you always got to go with Mike. Mike has six. I think we could’ve either tied that or got that. But if “if” was a fifth, we’d all be drunk, Susan.”But Shaq and Kobe
SHAQ AND KOBE
COULD have won as many ti- tles as Michael Jordan if only they had stopped hating each other’s asses and kept that whole f–king Lakers thing going for a few more years.

Jason Day Credits 'Mentorship' From Tiger Woods For Success
Glen Davis Has Ankle Surgery, To Be Sidelined 2-3 Months
NORTON, Mass. -- Jason Day claimed his first major championship title last month. He's won three of his last four starts, including last week's Barclays, and he has a chance to become No. 1 in the world for the first time at the upcom- ing Deutsche Bank Champi- onship.
He credits this success in part to a burgeoning friendship with a certain well-known golfer.
Some guy named Tiger Woods.
"It's just random things," Day said of Woods' frequent text messages. "We'll be talking about finishing on Sundays and the process of stuff. His text messages, I have to digest them a little bit more, because he is very smart. And he has to kind of dumb it down to my level."
Day and Woods have played multiple practice rounds together this year, and while their relationship ex- tends beyond the confines of the golf course, their corre- spondences usually stick to the subject.
"We talk about family every now and then, but it's mainly just golf -- just trying to shoot to get better," continued Day.

"If I think of a question, I'll just shoot it to him. I may hear it thatdayorImayhearinaday or two. ...
"He's been arguably one of the best players of all time. Who wouldn't want that men- torship from a player like that, especially on the golf course? To be able to receive text mes- sages and ask him questions and him being so open toward me has been fantastic."
Despite his recent run of suc- cess, Day insisted that the ad- vice offered between them is always a one-way street.
"No, I really don't," he an- swered when asked about that. "All we do is talk about golf. ... I don't know what he's doing at home, but he must be busy try- ing to practice and get ready for upcoming
Unsigned forward Glen Davis, who reportedly has had conversations about returning to the Los Angeles Clippers, will be sidelined for two to three months after having sur- gery on his left ankle, the Los Angeles Times reported- Wednesday.
The newspaper, citing an NBA official, said Davis had ligaments repaired in his left ankle in addition to having a cyst and bone spurs removed. He suffered the injury in Game 6 of the first round of the West- ern Conference playoffs against San Antonio.
The 6-foot-9, 289-pound Davis averaged 4.0 points and 2.3 rebounds last season for the Clippers. He also has played for Boston and Orlando during his

eight-year career.
The Times reported in late
August that Davis had met with Clippers coach Doc Rivers about rejoining the team, which still has an open roster spot, and that the Dallas Mav- ericks had also shown interest.
Dwight Howard Won't Face Charges For Gun In Bag At Houston Airport
HOUSTON -- Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard was detained at George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Friday for having a handgun in his carry-on bag.
Houston Police Department spokesperson Kese Smith said Wednesday that Howard was stopped at Terminal E at 7 a.m. when Transportation Se- curity Administration officials discovered a pistol in the bot- tom of a carry-on bag.
Howard told officials the gun was his, and after being detained by law enforcement officials he was allowed to give the handgun to an associate.
The Houston District Attor- ney's office was contacted after Howard was detained and declined to press any criminal charges against him.
Howard was allowed to board a later flight.
The Rockets released a state- ment saying the team was aware of the incident and still gathering information. Howard couldn't be reached.

Smith said guns are period- ically found at both of Hous- ton's main airports, Bush and William P. Hobby -- 77 were discovered in the past year -- and that few charges are filed or arrests made.
"This isn't unusual," Smith said.
In Texas, a person can carry a concealed handgun with the proper license.
A law passed this year will allow those in Texas with a conceal-carry license to openly carry starting Jan. 1, 2016.
