MRS. GENEVA SMITH LLOYD
A Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Geneva Smith Lloyd of Tampa, Florida, who passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2018, will be held on Saturday, Decem- ber1st,11a.m.atNewMt.ZionM. B. Church, Tampa, 2511 E. Colum- bus Dr., Tampa 33605, Rev. Larry Roundtree II, Pastor, officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
On June 26, 1933, the pictur- esque and tranquil settlement of Stuart Manor, Exuma came alive to the sounds of a beautiful baby girl named, Geneva. “Gee,” as she was affectionately called, was the oldest of four children (two girls and two boys), born to James and Ethel Clarke-Smith (both de- ceased). Gee received her educa- tion at The Rokers Point All Age School.
As was the custom in those days, she left school at an early age. Being an industrious and striving individual, she relocated to New Providence to seek em- ployment. While in New Provi- dence she connected with her life-long partner, Cecil Lloyd, Sr. The union became the proud par- ents of Geletha, Willis, William, Janita, Annette, Susan, Cecil, Jr. and Edward.
Geneva was a dedicated and loving mother who worked tire- lessly to ensure that her children were educated and cared for. To- gether, she and Cecil built a happy home, raising their children in the nurture and admonition of God. They were all taught to pursue ex- cellence in everything, having the expression, “If a job is worth doing, it is worth doing well,” often being repeated in their hear- ing. That was their motto.
Geneva began her employment with Ms. Cole at The Pepsi Cola Company and later she was em- ployed with the French family until her retirement. While in Nas- sau, Gee was a dedicated member of The Mt. Carey Union Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board, Missionary Society and sang a melodious tenor in the Senior Choir and The Bahamas Baptist Union Choir. She was a member of The Bahamas Mothers’ Club in Fox Hill and also a mem- ber of The International Free and Accepted Modern Mason Order of The Eastern Star Lois Chapter #13 for over 40 years.
Upon retirement, Geneva and her husband Cecil, relocated to Tampa, Florida. Gee’s moving to Florida did not stop her active in- volvement in church activities. She was a dedicated member of the New Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Tampa; she was a member of the Usher Board and often at- tended two Sunday morning serv- ice, until her health began to fail her. Geneva fought valiantly to the end, often saying, ‘Ride out your storm,” ‘I am not gonna give up,” and “I am in the hand of the Mas- ter.” Geneva has conquered her storm. She has fought the good fight, she has finished the course
and has kept the faith; her crown of righteousness awaits her.
