School District Launches Survey On Bell Schedule
The Hillsborough County Public School District has launched a survey to gather input from parents, students, district employees and the community. The district is seeking input on the 2018- 2019 bell schedule.
The survey will be avail- able until September 24. It offers six different bell sched- ule options that were chosen by the public.
Information gathered from the survey as well as the recent Bell Schedule Simula- tor and four upcoming public meetings will provide vital in- formation to help the School Board as it determines school
start and end times for the next school year.
The need to change the bell schedule came about be- cause thousands of students arrive late to school each day because the current arrival and dismissal schedule does not allow enough time for buses to run their routes.
Last year, 12,000 students were late to school every day. More than 1,800 responses were received from parents, teachers, and members of the community using the Bell Schedule Simulator. That survey closed on August 25th.
Families interested in voicing their opinions about
the change in the bell sched- ule can attend any one of two meetings.
All meetings will take place from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the following loca- tions:
Thursday, September 14, at Jefferson High School and Tuesday, September 19th, at Riverview High School.
The School Board will vote on a final bell schedule at their Tuesday, October 17th regular meeting. The change will give families nearly a year to make the necessary adjustments to their sched- ules.
