"O.J.: Made in America," a nearly eight-hour documen-
tary by filmmakers
Ezra Edelman and Caroline Waterlow,
won the Academy Award for best docu- mentary feature Sun-
day night at the 89th Academy Awards, bringing ESPN Films its first Oscar.
The film, part of ESPN's 30 for 30 series, told the story of Pro Football Hall of Famer O. J. Simpson, but was also a cultural look into race, celebrity, media and the crim-
Much was said last week about the boys-are-strong- girls-are-silent comments from Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Win- ston.
Hall of Fame Buccaneers linebacker Derrick Brooks had a few things to say di- rectly to Winston, primarily to help him avoid similar problems in the future.
“That’s the fishbowl you live in,” Brooks told
Jameis, according to a Sun- day interview with Brooks on 102.5 FM in Tampa, via JoeBucsFan.com.
Instead of criticizing Win- ston or criticizing the media for criticizing Winston, Brooks focused on looking ahead. He told Winston that he shouldn’t “go into a turtle shell,” and that he should consider techniques other than long speeches when speaking to kids.
ALTERRAUN VERNER
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released cornerback Alter- raun Verner on Thursday, re- portedly saving $6.5 million in salary-cap money.
Verner, 28, had one season remaining on a four-year, $25.5 million contract he signed as a free agent in 2014.
Verner had just four inter- ceptions in 46 games (23 starts) in his three seasons with Tampa Bay. He had just 12 tackles and one interception in 2016.
The strong play of rookie Vernon Hargreaves last sea- son helped cement his depar- ture.
Verner played his first four seasons with the Tennessee Ti- tans. He had a career-best five interceptions in 2013 when he made the Pro Bowl.
Andrew Bogut Negotiating 76ers Release, Wants To Join Cavs
ANDREW BOGUT
The Cleveland Cavaliers have emerged as the favorite to sign veteran center Andrew Bogut provided he can negotiate his release from the Philadelphia 76ers by Wednesday, according to league sources.
Bogut's agent, David Bau- man, and the Sixers remain in active buyout negotiations. The Australian big man is hoping to be waived by Wednesday, which is the last day this season players can be released and re- main playoff-eligible with their next team.
Two Dallas Mavericks sources told reporters on Sun- day that they expect Bogut to choose Cleveland if he indeed finds himself on the open mar- ket later this week, while an- other source close to the talks expressed optimism Sunday that a buyout is indeed forth- coming.
inal justice system in Amer- ica.
At seven hours and 47 min- utes, "O. J.: Made in Amer- ica" is the longest film to win an Academy Award, eclipsing the 1969 Best Foreign Lan- guage Film winner "War and Peace'' (431 minutes).
Ravens Safety Matt Elam Arrested On Multiple Felony Drug Charges
Marvin Lewis:
Baltimore Ravens safety Matt Elam was arrested on multiple drug charges early Sunday morning, according to court and corrections records.
Elam was booked on three felony charges at 3:45 a.m. ET: marijuana possession of more than 20 grams, posses- sion of marijuana with the in- tent to sell and possession of a controlled substance. The list of charges, according to the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Depart- ment, also includes one count of reckless driving.
Miami Beach Police said in an arrest report that Elam, who was driving a Range Rover, was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic in a reckless fashion. They

later searched the car and dis- covered a Gucci book bag on the driver's side floor board that contained 126.21 grams of loose marijuana and six Oxycodone pills, as well as cash and jewelry.
Elam remained in custody Sunday afternoon with a bail amount listed at $15,500. There was no information available on his first sched- uled court appearance.
Contract Extension Not
Critical Or Crucial
In late January, Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said that he’d “like to agree” to a contract extension with the team because he thinks it would put “everybody’s mind at ease going forward for their futures.”
It’s now late February and the two sides haven’t agreed on a deal that would keep Lewis under contract be- yond the 2017 season. Lewis still thinks a fourth extension in as many years would add a sense of security, but down- played its importance coming off a year that saw the Ben- gals miss the playoffs for the first time in six years.
“I don’t think it’s critical or crucial,” Lewis said, via the team’s website. “If things work out we would look to do that. I think some people are sometimes more at ease with

that. Maybe that’s not where we need to be. Maybe that’s not the right place for us to be right now ... everybody is year-to-year, right?”
Going into next season with an expiring contract would certainly create a sense of urgency in Cincin- nati, although one imagines that sense would exist under any circumstance as the Ben- gals close in on 30 years since their last postseason victory.
Panthers Re-Sign Team Sack Leader Mario Addison To 3-Year Deal
The Carolina Panthers have agreed to a new three-year deal with defensive end Mario Addison.
"Mario has shown he is one of the best emerging pass rushers in the league and he deserves this contract," gen- eral manager Dave Gettle- man told the team website. "He consistently affects the quarterback, and we envision an increased role for him in our defense. He's a pro in the way he approaches the game and brings an upbeat attitude to our locker room. We're thrilled he will continue his career with the Panthers."
Addison said he believes he can be an every down end, but will play whatever role the team wants.
"We met halfway in a good

agreement that is a really fair deal for me,'' Addison said. "I made my name here. I came here in 2012 and worked my way up.''
Addison, 29, led the Pan- thers in sacks this past season with a career-high 9.5. He has 22 over the past three seasons, which also is ahead of Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kawann Short (20.5) for the team lead during that span.
