In an Oscar finale that will go down as one of the most memorable ever, Moonlight wins the 2017 Oscar for Best Picture after a mishap oc- curred during the announce- ment.
As the "La La Land" cast was taking the stage to cele- brate, a stagehand in the wings said, "Oh ... Oh my god, he got the wrong enve- lope." They walked back and forth repeating it.
Warren Beatty, who had presented the award with Faye Dunaway, took re- sponsibility for the gaffe, ex- plaining that he and Dunaway had been given a card with the winner for best actress -- Emma Stone for "La La Land" -- and that Dunaway had then mistak- enly read that as the winning film.
"I opened the envelope and it said Emma Stone, 'La La Land.' That's why I took such a long look at Faye, and at you," Beatty told the crowd amid the confusion on stage. "I wasn't trying to be funny."
Shockwaves ripped through the entire room as everyone wondered what happened.

It seems everything con- nected with Tupac is worth money, as more of the de- ceased rapper’s memorabilia market for sale.
The black BMW Tupac was riding in when he was shot in 1996 in Las Vegas, is up for auction.
Marion “Suge” Knight
was driving the infamous BMW on the Las Vegas strip, which was shot up after the Mike Tyson/Bruce Sel- don championship boxing match.
The vehicle, which was sold off shortly after Tupac died on September 13, is being of- fered up for $1.5 million.
The sale comes several months before the release of the highly anticipated Tupac biopic “All Eyez On Me.”
The biopic, which stars Demetrius Shipp, Jr. as Tupac, is due in theaters on June 25, on what would have been Tupac’s 46th birthday.
The movie has caused an av- alanche of Tupac related merchandise to be auctioned off by various owners.
In January, nasty letters Tupac wrote from jail were auctioned off, and so were some love letters the rapper wrote to a sweetheart in high school.
Viola Davis Wins ‘Best Supporting Actress’
‘Training Day’ Star Bill Paxton, 61, Dies
Justin Cornwell and the late Bill Paxton.
The Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel joked that Viola Davis should get an Emmy for her acceptance speech upon winning best support- ing actress for her perform- ance in “Fences.”
Davis played Rose Max- son in “Fences,” reprising the role that earned her a Tony Award (her second) in a Broadway revival of August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-win- ning play.
In her acceptance speech, Davis said that Wilson “ex-

humed and exalted the ordi- nary people.” She also thanked her co-star and di- rector Denzel Washing- ton. “Oh captain, my captain,” she told Washing- ton, “thank you for putting two entities in the driving seat: August and God. And they served you well.”
She was previously nomi- nated for her supporting role in the 2008 film “Doubt” and for best actress for the 2011 film “The Help.”
Bill Paxton’s untimely death at age 61 came four episodes into the run of what will be his final series, CBS’ Training Day. Paxton is best known for the movies ‘Titanic’ and Aliens’ died after heart surgery.
Production on the midsea- son drama, a reboot of An- toine Fuqua’s acclaimed movie, wrapped in December, so all 13 episode from the show’s first-season order have already been filmed. That gives fans nine new episodes with the Twister actor. The next is slated to air next Thursday.
Training Day, produced by Fuqua, Jerry Bruck- heimer and Warner Bros.
Television, begins 15 years after the events in the feature, and centers on an idealistic young police officer (Justin Cornwell) who is appointed to an elite squad of the LAPD where he is partnered with a seasoned, morally ambiguous detective (Paxton). CBS and WBTV released a joined statement on Paxton’s pass- ing.
Training Day has been a very modest ratings per- former and was not expected to be in serious contention for a renewal — it opened with 4.7 million viewers.
Paxton’s death makes the already unlikely renewal vir- tually impossible.
‘Moonlight’ Wins 6 For 6 Independent Spirit Awards
La La Land may have some competition.
Moonlight swept the board at the 32nd Annual Inde- pendent Spirit Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday.
The Barry Jenkins-di- rected drama took home six awards including top honor Best Feature at the event held off of California's Santa Mon- ica Pier.
The award is seen as a good predictor for who will take Best Picture home at the Academy Awards as the last three winners have done so.
Writer and director Barry Jenkins accepts one of 6 awards on Saturday.
However this may not hap-
pen this year as Oscar-fa- vorite La La Land was too big a production to be considered an independent project with a $30 million budget.
Barry Jenkins was also a big winner as he took home the Best Director gong in ad- dition to the one for Best Screenplay.
It also took home the Robert Altman Award in ad- dition to wins for James Laxton in Best Cinematog- raphy as well as Joi McMil- lon and Nat Sanders for Best Editing.
