Muhammad Ali, Jr. Detained By Immigration Officers At South Florida Airport
MUHAMMAD ALI, JR. AND MUHAMMAD ALI, SR.
The son of famed boxer Muhammad Ali, Jr. was de- tained by immigration agents at a South Florida airport for hours, allegedly because of his religion.
Muhammad Ali, Jr., 44, and his mother, Khalilah Ca- macho-Ali, arrived at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Inter- national Airport on Feb. 7 after returning from Montego Bay, Jamaica. The duo arrived home after speaking at a Black His- tory Month event.
Family friend and lawyer Chris Mancini told the Louisville Courier-Journal that they were "pulled aside while going through customs because of their Arabic-sounding names."
Camacho-Ali is Muham- mad Ali, Sr.'s second wife. She was released after she showed officials a photo of her- self with her late husband, ac- cording to the report. Mancini told the Courier-Journal: offi- cials "held and questioned" Ali, Jr., a Muslim, for nearly two hours, "repeatedly asking him, 'where did you get your name from?' and 'are you Muslim?"
Ali Jr. was born in 1972 in Philadelphia and holds a U.S. passport. He and his mother currently live in Deerfield Beach, Fla.
"To the Ali family, it's crys- tal clear that this is directly linked to Mr. Trump's efforts to ban Muslims from the United States," Mancini said,
President Donald Trump's Jan. 27 executive order banned all refugees from entering the United States for 120 days, banned Syrian refugees indefinitely and banned entry for people from seven mostly Muslim countries for 90 days.
"It is a very interesting twist in history," Mancini told NBC News. "His father fought for his religious rights, and now that Trump is president, he has to fight."
Mancini and the Ali family are considering filing a federal lawsuit, according to reports.

On Orders From The Top
Before he could tweet JaVale McGee again or say something on TV past the point of no return – some- thing that might begin, “Yo mama” – Shaquille O’Neal received a telephone call from straight up the chain of com- mand.
“I have orders from the top to leave it alone,” O’Neal said past midnight on Saturday.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver?
“No,” O’Neal said. “My mama. Just say Shaq’s mom called him, told him, ‘Stop this silliness. Leave him alone.’ So that’s the end of the beef. You won’t be hearing about it from my side anymore. Mama has spoken.”
Said Lucille O’Neal ear- lier Saturday evening from her

Orlando, Florida, home: “It’s not funny anymore, seeing the things they’re saying to each other. They need to squash this and move on.”
McGee’s mama called later to essentially say: Not so fast.
“He cyberbullied my son,” Pamela McGee said in an emotional, 30-minute conver- sation. “Totally inappropriate. Shaquille needs to lose his job or be suspended. The NBA needs to make a stand.”
For a team over the luxury tax line with limited salary cap flexibility and for a team in need of a proven playmaker, the Cleveland Cavaliers could not have done any better than reaching a deal with veteran point guard Deron Williams.
The Cavaliers get another starter who will come off the bench, giving the Cavs the depth they need and want in the backcourt. The Cavs get a guard who can manage the of- fense, run plays, set up others for shots while not worrying about scoring.
But Williams can do that, too, when necessary. He has multiple games with 20 points or more this season.
And the Cavs get him at the most affordable price – the
veteran’s minimum. Williams will cost the Cavs just over $900,000 in salary and luxury tax payments. While they’re adding to the luxury tax bill, it’s not a finan- cial hardship.
This season, Williams, 32, is averaging 13.1 points and 6.9 assists and shooting 34.8% on three-pointers in 40 games for the Dallas Mavericks, who waived him on Thursday. He cleared waivers on Saturday and informed the Cavaliers he will sign with them for the re- mainder of the season.
Cavs All-Star LeBron James griped earlier in the season that the Cavaliers needed another playmaker, someone who could take the burden off of him and All-Star guard Kyrie Irving.
