First Annual ‘Night Of The Scholars Celebration’ Planned
On Saturday, January 7th, the inaugural celebration “Night of the Scholars” will be held in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The event will take place at the Historic Fort Harrison Hotel, 210 S. Fort Harrison Avenue, in Clearwater. It will begin at 5:30 p.m.
The semi-formal event is sponsored by the Butterfly Effect of Golf, Inc., a non-profit or- ganization committed to helping young people and children learn and explore the business of golf and its possibilities for future success.
The organization focuses on youth, espe- cially those from underserved communities, and introduces them to educational and STEM based programs. They learn a new sport and the leadership skills essential for success. It also answers the question of how to create access within such a culture.
The organization encourages higher edu- cation by providing scholarships for students to attend colleges and career training schools.
The inaugural program will award the first scholarships in the amount of $5,000, di- rected toward students who attend or plan to attend Hillsborough Community College in 2017.
Recipients of future scholarships will be from Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties. The Butterfly Effect of Golf works in cooperation with other community organizations, such as Tampa Heights Junior Civic Association and the 100 Black Men of Tampa Bay.
Robert Dooley, founder and CEO of The Butterfly Effect of Golf said, “It is my commit- ment and dream to help young people and in- troduce them to a whole new world in the field of golf and its global influence.
“I am honored to be able to make such an impact on individual lives in a way that I ex- pect will eventually impact whole communi- ties.”
