‘Unity’ Event Brings Citizens And Law Enforcement Together
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
On Sunday, October 16th, members of the community will come together for the “Unity In The Community,” event. It will take place at Centennial Park, 1800 E. 18th Avenue, (corner of 8th Av- enue and E. 18th Avenue), from 12 noon until 6 p.m.
This event is designed to bring members of the com- munity together with local governmental agencies, or- ganizations, churches, and others. And, in light of the problems between law en- forcement and its citizenry throughout the country, it will provide the perfect op- portunity for members of the community to interact with law enforcement.
Representatives from both the Tampa Police De- partment and the Hillsbor- ough County Sheriff’s Office will be in attendance.
Tampa Police Chief Eric Ward said, “We support events that bring officers and community members from all walks of life together to strengthen relationships and safeguard neighborhoods.
“The police department offers a variety of free pro- grams and services to help keep residents safe and in- formed. This event gives us an opportunity to share those resources with the public. I want to invite all members of our community that are in- terested in being part of something great to join us as we celebrate our city's cul- tural diversity.”
Col. Chad Chronister,
ERIC WARD Tampa Police Chief
of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said, “The Hillsborough County Sher- iff’s Office will always wel- come the opportunity to connect with the commu- nity as well as showcase our agency. Events like the Unity in the Community allow us to link arms with an array of other agencies and organiza- tions and present a unified front. It's all about us being a partner in the community. We work and play here, too.
“These events give us the opportunity for a positive in- teraction with the public and that alone, is priceless!
“HCSO will provide dis- plays and information about safety and services. We will have recruiters available to talk about rewarding career possibilities. There will be an educational component, so the public can ask and learn how to stay safe. There will even be an opportunity for families to decorate pump- kins with our deputies,” Col. Chronister said.
He further said that the sponsors are to be com- mended for bringing together such an assortment of public and private participants.
