Bucs Fight Back But Fall To Falcons, 34-29
Winston couldn't get it done in first start back.

The Tampa Bay Bucca- neers scored a touchdown on their first drive on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but missed the ensuing extra point, which would prove costly. The Atlanta Falcons scored touchdowns on their first three drives, however, and the Buccaneers never fully recovered despite an impressive second-half ef- fort, falling 34-29.
The Buccaneers fell to 2-3 on the season after a 2-0 start, though their division record is even at 1-1. The Fal- cons improved to 2-4.
The expected shootout between the two NFL teams allowing the most points per game took a while to truly materialize. With star quar- terback Jameis Winston back in the lineup, Tampa Bay's offense did produce 512 yards to 416 for the Fal- cons, including three scoring drives of 75 or more yards. However, Matt Ryan and the Falcons built a 15-point lead by midway through the second quarter, leaving the Bucs in comeback mode. They were able to claw back
to a 24-22 deficit early in the fourth quarter after the de- fense stiffened and pitched a third-quarter shutout, but Ryan countered with his third touchdown pass.
Winston's fourth touch- down pass with four minutes left closed the gap to two once again but Matt Bryant hit a 57-yard field goal to make it a five-point game. With no timeouts and one minute to work with, Win- ston drove the Buccaneers down to the Atlanta 21, where they had time for one more play with seven sec- onds left.
Rather than throw a low- percentage pass into a crowded end zone the Bucca- neers employed a different sort of gamble. Winston took the snap but then darted directly up the middle and across the 10-yard line. Knowing the game would end if he was tackled, Win- ston tried to get the ball to one of his designed pitch op- tions, but the lateral hit the ground and was never fully recovered before going out of bounds.

Mike Evans isn't done
making history with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The wide receiver became the franchise's all-time leader in receiver yards with 5,024 yards and counting after mak- ing a leaping 19-yard catch near the end of the first quar- ter of Sunday's matchup against the Falcons.
He surpassed Mark Car- rier, who previously held the record with 5,018 receiving yards.
GEORGE TALIAFERRO championship. In 1949, Tali-
aferro made history when he became the first Black player ever drafted by the NFL, taken by the Chicago Bears in the 13th round.
After declining to play with the Bears, he played one sea- son in the All-America Foot- ball Conference before joining the NFL’s New York Yanks. Taliaferro played in the league from 1950-1955, mak- ing the Pro Bowl three times from 1951-1951.

George Taliaferro, the first Black player ever taken in the NFL Draft as well as a col- lege football Hall of Famer, passed away on Monday at the age of 91.
The George Taliaferro Sport Association tweeted the news of his death on Monday.
Born in Tennessee but growing up in Gary, Ind., Tal- iaferro became a superstar at Indiana University at a time when black players weren’t af- forded many opportunities in college football or the pros. That season, Taliaferro also became the first black player to lead the Big Ten in rushing en route a 9-0-1 record and the school’s first and only outright Conference

The Pittsburgh Steelers stunned the Cincinnati Ben- gals on Sunday with a late touchdown to shake up the AFC North race.
With the Steelers driving and seemingly poised to try a long Chris Boswell field goal down 21-20 with under 20 seconds to go in the 4th, the Bengals took a risk and blitzed in the hope of knock- ing Pittsburgh out of field goal range.
Quarterback Ben Roeth- lisberger stood tall and im- mediately found Antonio Brown over the middle, who took it 31 yards for a go-ahead touchdown with just ten sec- onds left.
Le’Veon Bell Still Has Had No Contact With Steelers
Hughes Out For Season
Le’Veon Bell is expected to report to the Pittsburgh Steelers at some point during the Week 7 bye so he can play against the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 28, but he has appar- ently not informed the team of his intentions.
Bell has not spoken with any Steelers players or officials to let them know when he will be returning. The star running back has kept everyone in the dark about his status and plans to continue with that ap- proach, meaning he will likely just show up to work one day unannounced.
From a financial stand- point, it makes sense for Bell to report at some point in the
With Torn ACL
The Minnesota Vikings fear that cornerback Mike Hughes could be out for the season with a torn ACL.
Hughes went down while in coverage during Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals on a non- contact play.
Hughes went to the sideline and was quickly ruled out for the rest of the game. He was on crutches after the game and Hughes is feared to have a torn ACL.

Players are also required to have at least four consecutive days off during the bye week as written in the collective bargaining agree- ment, which would mean less practice time for Bell.
