New York Knicks Waive Veteran Big Man Joakim Noah
Jimmy Butler Expected To Play In Season Opener With Timberwolves
JIMMY BUTLER
Minnesota Timberwolves forward Jimmy Butler prac- ticed with the team on Sunday and is expected to play in the Timberwolves' season opener on Wednesday.
Butler had been absent for most of training camp and the preseason after he re- quested a trade from the team in September.
Despite weeks of trade ru- mors and speculation, it ap- pears Butler will begin the regular season on the Timber- wolves.
Richard Jefferson Retires After
17 NBA Seasons

Paying tribute to his late father, veteran small forward Richard Jefferson an- nounced his retirement after 17 NBA seasons via Instagram on Saturday.
Richard "Big Rich" Jef- ferson, 65, was killed last month in a drive-by shooting in Compton, Calif.
The 13th pick in the 2001 draft out of Arizona, Jeffer- son starred early for the then- New Jersey Nets before transitioning into a respected veteran reserve during the lat- ter half of his career.
He averaged 12.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 1,181 games for the Nets, Spurs, Bucks, Jazz, Warriors, Mavericks, Cavaliers and Mavericks.

Undefeated welterweight superstar Terence Craw- ford dominated José Be- navidez, Jr. on the scorecard Saturday night in his hometown of Omaha, Ne- braska, and he gave the 13,000 screaming fans a phe- nomenal finish in the final round. Crawford caught Be- navidez with a devastating uppercut that sent Be- navidez to the canvas.

Unable to find a trade, the Knicks waived the 33-year-old center Saturday with two years and $37.8 million remaining on his contract.

Philadelphia 76ers General Manager Elton Brand an- nounced today that the team has waived forward Cory Jef- ferson, guard Darin John- son and center Emeka Okafor. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not dis- closed.
Jefferson and Johnson signed with the team on Oct. 12, while Okafor joined Philadelphia on Sept. 21 and appeared in two preseason
