MINISTER ROBERT L. BROWN, JR.
Minister Robert L. Brown, Jr., of Tampa, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2019. The visitation will be held Friday, November 22, 2019, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church, 3910 W. Laurel Street, Tampa, FL 33607.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 23, 2019, at 11 a.m., at Beulah Bap- tist Institutional Church, 1006 W. Cypress Street, Tampa, FL 33606, with Pastor Dwayne E. Sanders, Sr., officiating and Pastor Wallace Z. Bowers, Eulo- gist. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park Ceme- tery, 4406 E. Chelsea Street, Tampa, FL 33610.
Minister Robert L. Brown, Jr., was born in Tampa, FL to Mr. Robert L. Brown, Sr., and Mrs. Estelle Brown. Robert was affectionately called “R.B.” and was the loving husband and soulmate to his beloved and de- voted wife, “Mel.”
Economic hardship fueled his quest for an honest, reliable source of income, beginning his entrepreneurial journey. At the age of 8, while attending Dun- bar Elementary School, he opened his first business deliv- ering newspapers for the Florida Sentinel Bulletin. He started his second business mowing lawns.
Robert graduated from Howard W. Blake Comprehen- sive High School, attended Hillsborough Community Col- lege, graduating as the first Black X-Ray Technician, and was later employed by Tampa General Hospital. He continued his education and became the first Black Nuclear Medicine Technologist at Morton Plant Hospital, in Clearwater, FL, as- sisting in the development of their Nuclear Medicine Imaging Services Department.
On January 16, 1979, he ob- tained his Florida Life and Health Insurance License, later, becoming the proprietor of his own insurance agency, American Investors Financial Consultants, LLC.
Robert accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior early in life. He was baptized in the Hillsbor- ough River, and continued to faithfully serve the Lord. He raised his nephew, Ryan Terrell from birth until the age of eight years.
He later received his Florida State license as a Therapeutic Foster Parent, loving and men- toring several children for many years.
He became an ordained Min- ister in 2009. In 2011, with en- couragement from his then Pastor Johnny Jones, opened and operated Spic and Span Hand Car Wash by Robert Brown. He joined Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church of Tampa in 2014, under the pas- torship of Rev. Wallace Z. Bow- ers. He was the Sunday School Superintendent, helped with the food pantry, outreach, and church grounds ministry.
Robert had a special bond with his uncle and aunt, Henry L. and Elizabeth Garrett, and gratitude for an honest step- daughter, Sonia L. Harden.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Robert L. Brown, Sr., grandmother, Ollie L. John- son, and uncle, Leonard C. Gar-
rettH. e leaves to cherish his lov- ing memories: his wife, “Mel” Brown; mother, Estelle Brown; children, Marcus (Wynter) Brown, daughter, Nicole A. (Deric C., Sr.) Sheppard; grand- sons, Deric C. Sheppard, Jr., Emery Z. Simpson, and Taurean J. Sheppard; granddaughters, Markeisha Brown, Khadijah Grace, Nya N. Sheppard, Alexis C. Simpson, and Naomi J. Kelly; great granddaughters, Janiyah Rumlin and Brooke Boyd; sis- ters, Stellamae M. Williams, Zel- lame M. Ford, and Aiko Y. (John) Johnson; uncle, Henry L. (Elizabeth) Garrett and a host of relatives and friends.
Armed Security Guard Shoots, Kills Bar Patron
Early Sunday, a shooting occurred that left a man dead. It took place in the parking lot of a local club.
According to the Hillsbor- ough County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the Aqua Lounge, 4203 W. Wa- ters Avenue, in reference to a shooting. When detectives arrived, they discovered that an adult man had been in- jured. He was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he later died.
The investigation re- vealed that patrons were in the parking lot, leaving the club when a fight began. Se- curity guards went to the area to attempt to stop the fights.

of those individuals fighting displayed a firearm. The Se- curity Guards intervened and at some point, one of the Se- curity Guards fired his own weapon. The victim was shot in the upper body, police
said.
At this time, no arrests
have been made and the in- vestigation is continuing.
Police have not released any additional information about the shooting.
Man Dies After Losing Control Of Vehicle, Hitting Tree
A 32 year-old man died early Sunday in a single car accident. The crash took place in the northbound
lanes of Interstate-275 near Mile Marker 55.

Cliff Jacques died at the scene of the accident.
Pierre Jacques, 32, of Wesley Chapel, was driving a 2013 BMW. He was traveling northbound on I-275, just north of Bearss Avenue, at a high rate of speed. Police said Jacques failed to negotiate a curve and his vehicle left the roadway. It traveled onto the shoulder, where it collided with a tree, split in half, and the rear portion of the vehicle caught fire.
Jacques suffered life- threatening injuries and died at the scene. The investiga- tion is continuing.
