Movie Reviews/Soaps/Horoscopes
Hitman: Agent 47 - An assassin-Agent 47 (Rupert Friend) searches for a woman (Hannah Ware) who un- knowingly is more lethal than he, to help her find her scien- tist father before the other as- sassins. This movie received bad reviews from the critics, but if you want to see Agent 47 get busy killing people, then this film is for you. En- joyed it! Only 1 hr./30 mins. long. Made $8M. (Budget $35M). ***1⁄2
Straight Outta Comp- ton - The supergroup NWA (Niggas With Attitudes - Eazy E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, MC Ren and DJ Yella) emerge from the streets of Compton, Cali- fornia in the mid 80s and in- troduced the world to gangsta rap. The music and movie was about life in Compton with gangs, drugs, police bru- tality and how the group rose to fame despite the odds. Di- rector F. Gary Gray (Friday) directed a masterpiece. Ice Cube (played by his son, O’Shea Jackson, Jr.), Eazy E(Jason Mitchell), Dr. Dre ( Corey Hawkins), MC Ren (Aldis Hodge), and DJ Yella (Neil Brown, Jr.) and man- ager Jerry Heller (Paul Gia-
matti) were all excellent. This movie should be nominated for an Oscar for best picture. You definitely can’t MISS this film based on the history of Hip Hop music. Didn’t feel like it was 2 hrs./30 mins. long. (Classic)! Still No. 1 at box office. Made $111M. (Budget $28M). Five Stars
Fantastic Four - Four young astronauts (Michael Jordan, Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell) teleport to another universe which alters their physical form. The Four must learn how to use their power to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy, Dr. Doom (Toby Kebbell). The director and film re- ceived bad reviews and criti- cism, because he changed Johnny Storm played by Jor- dan to a Black superhero. This reboot is still worth see- ing! Made $49M/ Foreign $79M. (Budget $59M). **1⁄2
The Gift (2015) - A mar- ried couple’s lives (Jason Bateman, Rebecca Hall) are thrown into a mysterious tail- spin when an old high school mate (Joel Edgerton) from the husband’s past brings gifts to their house and reveal an horrific secret that hap-
pened 20 years ago. Direc- tor/actor Edgerton did an ex- cellent job with this pyscho/ thriller. Whose side are you on? Made $31M. (Budget $5M). ****
Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation - Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), super agent Illsa (Rebecca Fergu- son), and the team (Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames and Je- remy Renner) take on The Syndicate - an International Rogue Organization as highly skilled as they are. The Syndi- cate’s main purpose is to de- stroy the IMF and assassinate top officials. Director Christo- pher McQuarrie did a great job with the special effects and storyline. This film was very entertaining. A must- see! Made $157M. (Budget $150M). **** and then some.
Southpaw - Director An- tione Fuqua (The Equalizer, The Shooter, Training Day) and actor Jake Gyllenhal should be nominated for Oscar’s best director and actor for this emotional box- ing drama. The movie was about light heavyweight champion Billy Hope (Gyl- lenhal) turning to trainer Tick Willis (Forrest Whitaker) for help after the tragic loss of his wife (Rachel McAdam) and his daughter to child pro- tection services. 50 Cent also stars as the corrupt promoter. Gyllenhal brought the Oscar worthy emotions to this film. Must-see for drama fans! Made $48. (Budget $30M). ****
Trainwreck - Having thought that having one boyfriend at a time was never possible, a commitment-pho- bic woman (Amy Schumer) may have to face her fears when she meets a doctor (Bill Hader) who really likes her. This movie was funny, but 30mins. too long (2 hrs./5 mins.). Made $102M. (Bud- get $35M). ***1⁄2
Ant Man - Director Pey- ton Reed amazingly directed this new and fresh Marvel movie about a cat burglar Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale with super strength, speed and being able to communicate with the ants. Lang must join forces with Dr. Hang Pym (Michael Douglas) and his daughter, Holly (Evangeline Lilly-The Hobbit) to fight against Dar- ren Cross (Corey Stoll) to save the world. Nice fight scene between the Ant Man and Avengers Falcon (An- thony Mackie). Michael Pena and T. I. also star. With the mixture of comedy and ac- tion, Ant Man is definitely better than Avengers 2 and a MUST-SEE. Catch it in 3D or IMAX. Made $164M. (Budget $130M). ****
