Mothers, Fathers, And Kids Of Lincoln Gardens Honor World War II Veterans
Program sparks inter- est for Community Park to honor Veterans, resi- dents
On Saturday, October 19, 2019, the Lincoln Gardens Community gathered to- gether for a community pro- gram entitled, “Mothers, Fathers and Children of Lin- coln Gardens,” to pay tribute to their living World War II Veterans, and their wives, Moses Thomas, III (Lil- lian) and David A. Bryant (Bertheness), original Lin- coln Gardens residents, and to reminisce on their fond memories in the Gardens.
The theme for this event was “Watering Flowers of Many Generations to Come.” This community program was organized by Reginald Bolton, the founder and chairperson of the non-profit organization, “Mothers, Fa- thers, and Kids of Lincoln Gardens, Inc.,” and a long- time resident of Lincoln Gar- dens.
In attendance were pres- ent and former residents, some of whom traveled from Alabama and Georgia. Al- though unable to attend due to health reasons, Mr. Bolton’s uncle, John Bolton, was there in spirit; sadly, he passed away a few weeks later.
Also, in attendance were representatives of the com-
munity such as Guido Man- iscalco, City Council, Dis- trict 6; Officer Willie Lee, City of Tampa Police Dept.; Dr. Maurice R. Harvey, Sr., LTC (ret.); Howard W. Blake Sr. High School, ROTC Color Guard; Rev. Prentiss A. Davis;. Donald L. Dowridge, Jr., and the po- etic sounds of Heard ’Em Say.
Because of Bolton’s hard work and dedication to his community, coupled with a like-minded committee and loyal residents, the program was a grand success. This success has set the tone for annual Mothers, Fathers, and Kids of Lincoln Gardens Pro- grams and Juneteenth Recognition Programs.
It has also paved the way for a new endeavor also founded by Bolton, which is a Community Park in honor of the Veterans of Lincoln Gardens and retired police officers, educators, nurses and others who played a part in watering flowers of many generations to come in the Lincoln Gardens and Carver City communities.
More details on this en- deavor and the opportunity to donate to its cause will be provided soon.
