SERGIO HERNANDEZ- ZULUAGA
JHON MARIN- MORENO
Last week, Judge Mary Scriven sentenced a 41-year- old man to one year and one day in federal prison. He is ac- cused of providing a gun to a person not allowed to have a gun.
Sergio David Hernan- dez-Zuluaga pleaded guilty on May 14, 2021.
According to court docu- ments, in December 2017 and February 2018, authorities in Bogota, Colombia seized sev- eral assault rifles and pistols that had been shipped from Tampa, Clearwater, and Kissimmee. The firearms were concealed in packages contain- ing household items.
Law enforcement agencies in the United States traced some of the weapons and de- termined that most of them had been acquired in the Tampa area. The agencies later discovered that Hernandez- Zuluaga had purchased and stored at least seven of the firearms before they were shipped to Colombia. Her- nandez-Zuluaga transferred the firearms to his friend, Jhon Marin-Moreno, a dual citizen of the United States and Colombia, who arranged for their illegal export.
At the time, Hernandez- Zuluaga knew that Marin- Moreno was a convicted felon who could not possess firearms.
Marin-Moreno was charged separately and sen- tenced to three years and three months in federal prison.

Two Tampa men entered guilty pleas by accepting plea agreements last week. They are accused of committing a series of armed robberies.
Tyee Spike, II, 18, pleaded guilty to participating in 10 armed robberies, dis- charging a firearm during a robbery, and possessing a firearm and ammunition after being convicted of a felony.
Jeffrey L. Davis, 22, pleaded guilty to participating in 8 armed robberies. They both face a maximum sen- tence of life in federal prison.
According to their plea agreements, Spike and Davis committed a series of commercial armed robberies, which took place in Tampa, Fishhawk, and Riverview, be- tween October 13 and October 19, 2020.
Firearms were displayed during every robbery. In the first robbery, an individual confronted Spike, and Spike shot him in the stomach. The victim remained hospitalized for 12 days, but survived.
Prior to the spree, Spike committed a carjacking to ob- tain the getaway vehicle which the men used for the

robberies. The robbery spree ended with a high- speed chase, in which the defendants crashed the getaway ve- hicle before being appre-
     hended.
At the time of the defen-
dants’ arrest, their getaway vehicle contained a “list of criminal achievements and/or ambitions,” which itemized various houses they intended to target and per- sonal possessions they in- tended to take, including the names and locations of sev- eral commercial establish- ments.
In the year prior to the robbery spree, Spike had been convicted of battery on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon, resisting an officer with violence, grand theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of robbery, and bur- glary of an unoccupied con- veyance.
Sentencing dates have not been set.
