Info On TBX To Be Shared At Regular East Tampa Meeting
Candidates Qualify For Special City Council Election
Ms. Evangeline R. Best, Chair of the East Tampa Community Redevel- opment Program (ETCRP), invites the community to join in their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Septem- ber 13, 2016. The 10 a. m. meeting will be held at Cyrus Greene Park in the Commu- nity Room. The meeting is for residents, business owners and concerned citizens.
This month’s special guest is Beverly Ward, Ph.D. She is expected to share basic information on TBX as a prelude to the TBX presen- tation within the next several weeks.
The members of the group have been asking ques- tions. For instance: what the letters TBX stand for; its au- thority; where does the money come from to fund projects; can residents vote

against it; what federal laws can protect property; impact on East Tampa; boundaries for TBX, and a website that will provide more informa- tion.
Boundaries of the ETCRP are: East to 56th St; West to Interstate 275; South to Inter- state 4; and North to Hills- borough Ave.

When registered voters cast their ballots for the up- coming General Election in November, they will also vote for a member of the Tampa City Council.
The qualifying period for the special City Council elec- tion closed at 5 p.m. Friday. Six candidates qualified to seek the seat of the City Council District 7 representa- tive. Council woman Lisa Montelione resigned from the position to challenge in- cumbent Shawn Harrison for the State Representative District 63 post.
The candidates are:
Jim Davison, 61, is an Emergency Room physician. He has served on the Health Care Advisory Board, the Emergency Medical Planning Council and the Health Care Task Force.
Retired 26-year veteran of the Tampa Police Depart- ment Orlando Gudes is a 49-year-0ld Tampa native. He founded the United Youth Football Conference, and is a former Coach for the Police Athletic League.
Ms. Avis Simone Har- rison, 52, is a former educa- tor and home-school evaluator. She is a member of the Board of the Tampa Chapter of the National Council of Alcohol and Drug Dependency.
Gene Siudut, 43, is President of the Lions Club of Ybor City and an Editor with the La Gaceta news- paper.

candidate received a majority of the votes, a runoff will be held on December 6, 2016.
Anyone who is not al- ready registered to vote, must be registered by 5 p.m. on October 11th. Early Voting for the General Election will begin on October 24th and end on November 6th. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
