The 2018 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade will be held on the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Holiday, Mon- day, January 15, 2018. The deadline for those wishing to participate in the parade is Wednesday, November 1, 2017.
“We’re reaching out to the community before the holiday season,” states Robert Scott, Jr., co- chair of the parade with Howard Harris. “When
the holidays come, people get busy and so many forget to register. When January comes, it’s almost too late to add to the list of partici- pants,” he said.
The 2018 parade will be the 29th event that started in 1988 as a march/walk from St. Paul AME Church (downtown) to the Hillsbor- ough County Courthouse.
After enjoying several years in the West Tampa community, and the cele- bration ending in the Pepin- Rood Stadium at the University of Tampa, the parade is now held in East Tampa. The parade starts at N. 15th Street, follows a route

down Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., down 22nd St., and ends on Osborne Ave. (at 22nd St.)
“Participating in the event is not only great fun, but it also provides an excel- lent way to promote organi- zations or businesses at minimal cost. Entries are limited, so please note the application deadline date and submit your application with required attachments, as early as possible,” Scott

Parade applications, ac-
companying documents (ve- hicle insurance and/ or tax exempt certification) and entry fees can now be sub- mitted online, Scott said. “Alternatively, applications can be downloaded from our website and mailed in. Visit the Parade Foundation website at www.mlkjrpa- rade. com for application submission.
Scott said, “Please re-
view all forms carefully and complete all requested in- formation. Please note that applications submitted after the deadline will incur a late fee. All motorized and/or trailer vehicles must be in- sured to participate in the parade.”
The 2nd Annual Fundraising Dinner and Gala will be held on Thurs- day, January, 11, 2018, at TPepin Hospitality Centre.
The mailing address is Dr. Martin Luther King Pa- rade Foundation, P. O. Box 1276, Tampa, Florida 33601-1276. Applications will be processed and given position numbers as they are received.
