The Lakeland Police Athletic League (PAL) Program Is Growing
The Lakeland Police Athletic League (PAL) Program is approaching its 24th anniversary in our community. We have seen first-hand the posi- tive impact the program has made in the lives of the productive citizens in our community who par- ticipated in the aftercare and mentoring pro- grams as youth.
Currently, the Lake- land PAL Program serves over 2,500 youth throughout the year. There are 10 programs and 5 special events of- fered annually to serve children and families in the Lakeland commu- nity.
The Lakeland PAL Program is growing rap- idly at a 110% rate and is in need of resources to adequately match the positive impact the pro-
gram is making. They currently need a facility to fit their outstanding growth and potential along with the need of additional staff mem- bers.
The aftercare and mentoring programs are critical to caring for and educating our youth in addition to serving as a resource for crime pre- vention. The current fa- cility is a temporary solution, but regretfully is turning youth away be- cause of the lack of space. The Lakeland PAL Program had to reduce the number of youth in the aftercare program from 100 to 55 youth and had to reduce the youth in the mentoring pro- gram from 150 to 75 youth, because of the lack of adequate space.
As citizens, we have a
role and responsibility for the next generation of leaders. We can do our part to keep the young people that live in our neighborhoods out of the Juvenile Justice System. Building or ren- ovating a proper facility that encourages the con- tinuing work of the Lake- land PAL Program will make a hugely positive impact in our commu- nity.
With a new facility and adequate space for the Lakeland PAL Pro- gram, children and teenagers living among us will have a chance to contribute to the future of Lakeland, the State of Florida and the United States of America.
