THE DAY GOD TOOK YOU HOME
MR. MORRIS SUTHERLAND May 20, 1940 – November 4, 1996
A million times we’ve needed you
A million times we’ve cried
If love alone could have saved you
You never would have died.
In life we love you dearly; in death we love you still.
In our hearts you hold a place, no one else can ever fill. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone, part of us went with you the day God took you home.

Your Word Ought To Be Your Bond A Man Of Integrity
EARLIEST “WILL” WILLIAMS Transitioned November 21, 1971
As children, growing up “living under the roof of our parents,” our Daddy would often teach us a valuable lesson about integrity. Now, whether the word integrity was in his vocabulary, we did not know, nevertheless, we clearly understood what he meant when it came to making a promise.
Whenever we asked Daddy to borrow something, pay back a debt or even make a promise, he would say, “Now, just remember your word ought to be your bond!” Yes, your bond, it did not mat- ter what it was; when you said you were going to do “something” we learned to keep that promise. Subsequently, Daddy taught, if you could not for any reason keep your word or meet your agree- ment, then ‘square up’, fix it in person or make a fair and honest offer so you would ‘come straight.’ In other words, as Paul wrote in the book of James 5:12, “...but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no...”
Over time, each has made promises and heard them from per- sons in many places, positions and situations. Through experi- ence, some promises lacked trustworthiness, credibility; were unrealistic, ridiculous and even caused broken relationships. Con- trarily, some promises persons made were wise, proved successful and strengthened key relationships. We are so thankful, our Daddy left us a legacy of integrity, character and demonstrated faith in God; coupled with modeling Jesus’ character, reliability, strength and reputation.
Yes, God is a promise-making God. Throughout history, He has made huge, extravagant, wonderful promises to humanity. Cru- cially, God is also a promise-keeping God. What He says, He does. And at a particular point in history, He fulfilled all of His prom- ises in the life, death, resurrection and rule of one human—Jesus, a carpenter from a small Jewish town. The good news is that God’s promises are promises kept. Whose promises are you standing on? As for us, like our Daddy and Mama, we are still...
Standing on the promises of Christ our King, Through eternal ages let his praises ring; Glory in the highest, we will shout and sing, Standing on the promises of God.
Goodnight Daddy, we will see you in the morning!
Your legacies and generations to come, Leatricia, Earliest, Val- retha, Maggie, Norma, Michelle; including Thelma, Annette, Juanita and grandchildren.
