Inez Austin Sims passed on Sunday, November 13, 2016 (Paid News)
Inez Sims was born on July 4, 1946 to Beatrice Haile Austin and Robert A. Austin in Tampa, Florida, where she was one of five children (Betty Ham- monds, John Austin, Rhu- dine Curry and Shirley Austin). While in Tampa, Inez attended Blake High School and discovered her passion for playing the flute while academically ex- celling, becoming her class vale- dictorian.
Inez devoted her entire career to the health profession. In 1967, she received a diploma from Grady Nursing School in Atlanta, Georgia. She then attended Wayne State University in De- troit, Michigan, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree and later went to Mercy College of De- troit and became a Physician’s As- sistant with a Bachelor of Science. She subsequently worked in the health profession assuming a va- riety of positions.
Inez was a loving wife and mother. In 1968, she married Rev. Phylemon Titus, where Dr. Martin Luther King, Sr. officiated the ceremony. The two then planted roots in Detroit, Michigan and in 1974, Inez’s first child was born, Iyana Titus.
While in Detroit, Inez was a faithful and devoted member of several churches, but she spent the majority of her years at Berea St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she sang in the gospel choir and directed the chil- dren’s choir.
Inez later moved to Austin,

Texas and married Rev. Harold A. Sims in 1985. Together, they had two children, Harold and Beatrice Sims. While in Austin, Inez continued working in the health profession at Biomedical Research Group and remained a devoted member of the church.
Inez and her two children re- turned to her Tampa roots in 2002 where she served as a Re- search Coordinator at Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Insti- tute and immediately joined Grace Bible Church of Brandon. At Grace Bible Church, Inez used her spiritual gifts to play her flute during worship service, care for children in the nursery, and beau- tify the church by planting and maintaining flowers in front of the building.
She will be remembered best for her faith, devotion and love of God.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, November 21, 2016, 6 P. M. at Grace Bible Church of Brandon, 1010 East Brandon Boulevard, Brandon, Florida 33511. There will be a potluck dinner immediately after the service for the family and those who are attending. You may bring something if you wish.
