Hillary Clinton Spends Part Of Birthday In Tampa Pushing Early Voting
BY KENYA WOODARD Sentinel Feature Writer
Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton spent her birthday last Wednesday in downtown Tampa’s Curtis Hixon Park rallying thousands of sup- porters and urging them to cast their ballots ahead of Election Day.
With less than two weeks remaining in the campaign season, Clinton and a bevy of special guests – including actress Angela Bassett – did not mince words about what could happen if voters did not show up to the polls.
“Florida is paving the way for what our country will look like and we need to lift each other up...not sowing the seeds of hatred and bigotry,” she said.
Clinton highlighted key issues of her campaign, most notably equal pay for women.
The matter “isn’t just a women’s issue, it’s a family issue,” she said.

Democratic Presidential Nominee Hillary Clinton addressed thousands at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park on her 69th birthday, Wednesday, October 26th.
“So I know you are taking that seriously, right?”
Unlike her opponent, Hillary supports “all of us,” Castor said.
“Who’s going to fight for equal pay for equal work?” she said. “Hillary, not Trump.”
Tampa resident Somara Williams said it was “the chance of a lifetime” to see and hear Clinton in person.
Williams said Clinton’s stance on education and childcare are among the rea- sons she’s voting for the for- mer Secretary of State.
“My connection to her is as a strong woman against all odds,” she said.
For Kadeem Johnson and Kaadeem Grant, both 25, gender isn’t a factor in this election.
Clinton is just the better candidate, Grant said.
“She doesn’t seem as irra- tional as Donald Trump,” he said.
Trump, Johnson said, “is all appearances – the toupee, the racist ways.”
tance with college debt, and the economy are other issues Clinton said are at the core of her platform.
But solutions to those problems won’t come to fruition if Republican nomi- nee Donald Trump is voted into office, Clinton said.
She implored the crowd to volunteer with her campaign and encourage neighbors and friends to vote.
“Change is inevitable in
life,” she said. “The question is what kind of change do you want?”
Bassett, who graduated from Gulfport’s Boca Ciega High School, said Hillary’s strong commitment to chil- dren and women reminded her of her own mother, who raised her as a single parent.
The star, who’s portrayed Tina Turner in “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” and Betty Shabazz in “Malcolm
X”, said Clinton also mirrors many of the strong women she’s played on screen.
“Just like the women I’ve played on film, Hillary is a trailblazer and in 13 days she’ll be a glassbreaker,” she said.
However Middle Florida votes, so goes the rest of the country, said U. S. Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Tampa).
“We decide elections here in the I-4 Corridor,” she said.
