Smollett’s family opened up the show with their own speech before giving him the stage. The actor/singer was ob- viously dealing with a lot of emotions but managed to ad- dress the fans in attendance with a clear message.
“I have so many words on
said. “The most important thing I have to say is thank you so much and that I’m OK ... I’m not fully healed yet, but I’m going to. And I’m gonna stand strong with y’all. It sounds ... I had to be here tonight, y’all. It sounds proud, but I couldn’t let those motherfuckers win.”
He added, “I will always stand for love. I will never stand for anything other than that. Regardless of what any- one else says, I will only stand for love. And I hope that you all will stand with me. So thank you.”

This week in Hip Hop, Tekashi 6ix9ine pleaded guilty and allegedly snitched on others in the RICO case against the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang. Also, a rep de- nied Kanye West is holding Yandhi hostage amid a law- suit and Blueface learned he was signed to more than just Cash Money West while on The Breakfast Club.
On January 23, Tekashi 6ix9ine reportedly pleaded guilty to nine counts of racket- eering, conspiracy, firearms offenses and narcotics traffick- ing while allegedly part of the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang.
According to TMZ, the con- troversial rapper struck a deal with the feds but is still facing 47 years in prison. The federal docs obtained by the outlet re- vealed Hernandez was in- volved in dealing heroin, fentanyl, ecstasy, ampheta- mines and marijuana.

Soul singer and activist Sam Cooke's murder has long been described as a "jus- tifiable homicide," but now his life and death are being re-ex- amined in an upcoming episode of Netflix's ReMas- tered.
Cooke was shot dead in 1964 by motel manager Bertha Franklin, who said Cooke attacked her in her of- fice. Franklin wasn't charged, and it was considered an act of self-defense. How- ever, Cooke's family believe that his death was part of a conspiracy against the civil rights movement.

You can watch the trailer for the episode, which high- lights Cooke's career and ac- tivism. His actions, such as
refusing to play in segregated venues and championing equality, made him a beloved member of Black America, but it also put a target on his back.
According to Netflix, Re- Mastered "investigates high- profile events affecting some of the most legendary names in music, presenting ground- breaking discoveries and in- sights beyond what’s been previously reported." The eight-part series includes episodes on Johnny Cash, Bob Marley and Jam Mas- ter Jay.
Cooke's episode of Re- Mastered drops Feb. 8.

last week reveal the 22-year- old artist being very open about the Chief Keef shoot- ing and how committed he was to the gang.
“I paid a person to shoot at a rival member of Nine Trey to scare him,” he says in the tran- script. “The shooting took place in Manhattan. I did this to maintain or increase my own standing in Nine Trey.”
Twitter has re-named him “Snitch9ine” since the re- lease of the transcript.
