Coach Moves From
Steve Young Says Bucs Would Be ‘Nuts’ To Move On From Jameis Winston
JAMEIS WINSTON
STEVE YOUNG
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have to make a decision soon on the future of quarter- back Jameis Winston.
The former number one overall pick had a season for the ages in 2019, both good and bad. While becoming just the eighth quarterback in NFL history to throw for 5,000 yards in a season, Winston also became the first quarter- back ever to throw for 30 touchdowns and 30 intercep- tions in a season. Suffice it to say, the Bucs — and namely head coach Bruce Arians — won’t tolerate interceptions like that again.
So, while the team evalu- ates their quarterback and his future, they may want to heed the advice of one former Bucs quarterback, Steve Young. The Hall of Famer said Win- ston was “spectacularly reck- less” in 2019, but believes Tampa Bay should stick with him, not just for next season, but long-term.
“I think they’d be nuts to turn the corner from Jameis. I think Jameis is their future. Let’s re-sign him and get him coached up, get rid of the reck- lessness. Let’s go all in.’’

MICHAEL WILLIAMS ... New Wharton High School Football Coach
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Coach Michael Williams retired as a profes- sional athlete in 2011. The next chapter in his life was that of a high school football coach.
In July 2019, Coach Williams accepted a job as the Head Coach at Middleton High School and came back home after spending several years in California.
Last week, Coach Sports
Williams made another move. He left Middleton High School to become Head Coach at Wharton High School.
A Tampa native, the 35- year-old father of two attended the public schools of Hillsbor- ough County. He spent his first four years in foster care before being adopted by his great aunt, Mrs. Gertrude Law- son, of West Tampa.
He went on to become a 2- sport star and graduated from Plant High School as its all- time leader in rebounds and blocks. He was also an All- American football player.
While in college, Coach Williams was a freshman and Consensus All-American and National Championship member with 176 receptions and 30 touchdowns in only 2 seasons.
In 2005, he was drafted #10 overall in the NFL Draft.
After retiring in 2011, he accepted his first high school coaching job. In 9 seasons, Coach Williams graduated every player to receive a Var- sity letter. He also has 2 league championships and 6 playoff appearances in that span of time.
Patrick Mahomes has been making history since he first suited up for the Kansas City Chiefs, and now he's tak- ing the franchise to its first Super Bowl appearance in 50 years, as Kansas City sits one win away from its first cham- pionship since the 1969 sea- son.
Mahomes -- who'll be 24 years, 138 days on Jan. 2 -- will become the fifth youngest quarterback to start a Super Bowl; it's another big accomplishment for the 2018 NFL MVP, who has played just two full seasons in the league.
Mahomes' postseason run with the Chiefs has been nothing short of incredible. He's 46 of 70 for 615 yards with eight touchdowns and zero interceptions with a 131.6 passer rating. He's the first player in NFL history to

start his postseason career with 10-plus touchdown passes before his first inter- ception.
Mahomes is the first player in NFL history with 250-plus passing yards and 50-plus rushing yards in back-to-back playoff games, and joined Joe Montana (1984) as the only players with 250-plus pass yards, 3- plus pass touchdowns, and 50-plus rush yards in multi- ple career playoff games.
    Bucs LB Shaq Barrett
Is Ready For The Pro
Bowl In Orlando
Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaq Barrett may not be heading to the Super Bowl in Miami, but he’s ready to suit up for the Pro Bowl this week in Orlando.
The Second-Team All-Pro who led the NFL in sacks this season with 19.5, and also set the Bucs’ single-season fran- chise record, is likely going to get a big contract from the Buccaneers this offseason, so being a part of the Pro Bowl is really just icing on the cake.
