IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Two Killed In Separate Traffic Accidents
Two people died in traffic ac- cidents in Hillsborough County. The first accident took place at approximately 8:30 p.m. Sun- day.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Sunday night, a 65-year-old bicyclist died after being struck by a vehicle.
Patrick Monqno, of Tampa, was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk in front of 13301 W. Hillsborough Avenue, approach- ing State Road 580. Richard Charles DaCosta, 61, of Tampa, was driving a 2005 Ford F-150. As DaCosta crossed the driveway access, his truck hit Monqno’s bicycle.
Monqno was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he later died.
Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
The second accident oc- curred at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday on State Road 574 (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd.), east of Interstate 4.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Vance Ralph Eldridge, Jr., 27 of Tampa, died as a result of his injuries at Tampa General Hospital.
According to investigators, Eldridge was driving a 2007 Suzuki GSX R-60 westbound on State Road 574. Ms. Donna G. Exum, 57, of Plant City, was traveling westbound on 574, at- tempting to turn onto Interstate 4.
The green traffic light was in favor of Ms. Exum. As she at- tempted to make the turn, El- dridge ran the red light and collided with the 2017 Toyota 4 Runner, Ms. Exum was driving. After striking the truck, El- dridge’s motorcycle continued southwest into the eastbound lanes and collided with a 2011 Toyota RAV 4, driven by Ms. Patricia Marshall, 77, of Riverview.
Eldridge was the only one injured in the accident. No charges are expected to be filed, police said.
